UPS B-727-100's

Sun Feb 11, 2007 11:44 am

Has UPS retired all of the B-727's? And if so what a/c was used to replace the 27's?

Hey Clipper707, all I know is that UPS retired 12 727-100's in 2005. Am not sure it was all of them, since UPS paid good money to re-engine them with RR Tay engines.

The re-engining of the 727 was a brilliant move on UPS. Unfortunately, Boeing is putting the 727 "out of business" with number of AD's and increased inspections. The 727 is being dealt the same fate as the 727. A former US 757 is being converted for FX 727 replacement.

I don't know how long they are going to keep them, but they had at least two of them as of this past December. I saw N936UP and N942UP at CLE:

Nope. The 727-200s and 727-231A were gone 1Q, 2002.

The 727-100s still fly; about 12 of them if I can recall. Saw
one at AUS on Friday.

They have 12 according to airlinepilotcentral. I know for a fact they are still flying though because my sister is a flight enginere for UPS on the 727. However she is going through training next month as an FO on the 757, 767.

They'll be gone by the end of the year. Rumor has it, only 4 will be operating by the end of April.

I thought UPS only operated the -100? I've never seen a -200 in UPS color.

MDT gets the 727-100 now to augment the daily A300 to SDF. It normally positions from PIT in the early morning and makes the run to SDF at night.

Boeing is, in effect, trying to force retirement of the 727-100? Might it be the additional ADs and inspections are necessary because the airplanes are old? More intense maintenance as a result of age ... wow, what a concept!
