Why Does LH Serve NCL From DUS And Not FRA?

Mon Feb 12, 2007 9:55 am

I was wondering why does Lufthansa serve Newcastle from Dusseldorf and not Frankfurt? Do the two cities have some sort of relationship which enables it to have a 1 x daily flight?

I would have though Frankfurt, or even Munich, would have been better as it offers better worldwide connections, whereas Lufthansa's network from Dusseldorf is only European, with a lot of the destinations already being served non-stop from Newcastle.

How long has this flight been operating and what are the loads like?

Quite a few years now, loads seem to be o. The flight has recently seen CRJ-700s/RJ85s and even a 737-500 operating it recently.

The flight has been around since the early 1990's if I recall correctly.

I remember Eurowings being the original starter of this route but I think that there´s been a pause in between.

HAM was served for a while then the flight moved to DUS

I guess slots at FRA might be an issue, especially if LH wanted to have double/triple daily flights. However I'm sure they could do once daily if they wanted

Maybe LH would consider 2xDaily CRJ-100 flights in the future or the re-introduction of HAM?

I guess there is one or several big companies here that create a constant stream of passengers between the two cities. Other than that, there would be no sense for LH in not linking the city to one of their two German hubs.

Gill Airways used to serve NCL-DUS using ATRs, at one stage it was up to 2 x Daily before 9C went bust.
