Visiting St Maarten/Princess Juliana Airport

Tue Feb 13, 2007 5:18 am

I'll be in St Maarten for the day and plan on going to the beach that is at the end of the runway. Can anyone give me some hints/information about getting there or when to go there?
Also, is there a way to find out the traffic in and out of the airport? A website of some kind that lists arrivals and departures?
thanks

Just come back from there, so much fun. The beach is only a short walk from the new terminal. There is a bar at each end of the beach and one has an arrivals board and live raido. there is plenty to look at all day, but best for big jets is between 13:00 - 17:00hrs daily with the AF A340 landing about 16:00hrs ( I think). Weekends are best, there is AC 767, KL 747, AF 340, Corseair 747, loades of 757/737 from the american carriers. You'll have a great time!

There good websites for finding out about flights. I don't know if they list all of the flights going to and from a airport on flightarrivals.com

Flightaware is only for US domestic and some int'l traffic in and out of the US. I doubt it will do much good for SXM.

edit: I just checked, it does show some use but will only be reliable for flights with an FAA flight plan, other flights are hit and miss. The ICAO code is TNCM

Haven't been there myself (yet), but I'd stick with what the locals offer. It's not new territory by any means, tourism is a huge draw for SXM and that beach is one of the best known spotting areas in the world.

You might also check the official website for the airport and/or the region. Here's a link to the timetable from the airport's website: http://www.pjiae.com

edit: add links.

Tis truely a special place for seeing huge aircraft very very close and some other nice sights as well......the bar on the south side of the beach is a must. I haven't been to SXM in about 4 years and have to book a trip there soon.

Just don't stand behind the fence watching departures unless you want a good sand blasting!  Smile
