Ricky Martin Cargo Plane For Concerts?

Tue Feb 13, 2007 6:49 am

Hey Guys,

Ricky Martin is playing this Monday in Costa Rica and the press says he will arrive on Sunday with 60+ people and his equipment, which I assume is an AN-124 due to the fact its a very popular plane for Concerts and I have seen photos on a VDA A124 in HKG when he played there in 2001. He will be playing this Friday 16th in Dominican Republic, then he will travel to some more Central American cities. Hopefully someone in SDQ can give us the heads up on what he is using or if someone knew that would be even great! I would love to know what airplane these 60+ people are going to come, or may I say "airplanes."

Thanks!
Tomas.

Can an AN-124 even land at SJO?

It certainly can. The runway should be long enough, only problem is that it might have to make a full runway rollout, which means there might be a few problems with the aircraft using the turning bay. But I doubt there will be too serious problems if an AN-124 can land at SJO.

With all due respect, but do you really think that they are going to risk that a/c if they are not sure about what SJO offers?

AN-124's are perfectly fine in SJO, as a matter a fact I have a photo of when it came with Eros Ramazotti back in 94 parked on SJO's ramp. AN-124's have even landed in Liberia and we get the C-5 every year, so it should be no challenge.

Ricky Martin certainly has used the AN-124 for his equipment before, and I have seen photos in the database of AN-124 with his equipment.

Hopefully someone from Puerto Rico or Dominican Republic will know what they are going around.

Thanks!
Tomas.

The King of Smeg has that big of entourage? I thought he was old news and played little cabana clubs attended by middle-aged Hispanic women who want to leave their husbands.

Yeah now that I remember I've seen a C-5 and C-17s (even the Concorde) visit SJO. I cant say that I thought an AN-124 would ever...Wasnt the runway expanded a few years back? That new management company has put a lot of money in it over the last few years. I remember it back in the 80s. It was always a treat to arrive and walk down those stairs (into the pit) watching for your family from the observation deck above.  Smile

Well, ATI has a combi that is sometimes used for concert tours, a DC8-72 (and a DC8-62, too). It, however, only holds 32 people in the passenger section. www.airtransport.cc

An AN-124 sounds a bit large, but I guess it depends upon what kind of equipment would be coming along. Seems to make more sense to send the equipment along on a separate aircraft from the performers. I'm wondering how Martin's insurance carrier would feel about him flying on such an aircraft.

It seems no movement from TJSJ or nearby airports into MDSD today for him and whatever cargo he is using, I think the AN-124 can be ruled out, but hopefully at least he's running a nice plane, since its him and around 60 more people travelling with him. I guess since we didn't see any movement today, he is flying in tomorrow morning to SDQ, I will check again tomorrow, hopefully someone from SJU or SDQ can let us know what is coming.

Thanks guys!
Tomas.
