wow good for PNS, this is their's and the panhandles only real non stop link to the midwest after NW pulled MSP-PNS before they went into bankruptcy and DL pulled CVG (again). I wonder if NW will restart MSP-PNS in the future? I think NW also had seasonal weekend service to DTW as well. Good for AA as well, they seem to have done real well at PNS, would be nice to see a MIA flight started too.

AA will begin flying MOB-ORD starting April 10th also.

I've noticed. Seems they can never make there mind up about this route.

I agree. If they can ever find a aircraft for the route.

Those flights aren't exactly well spaced (I guess thats because of the situation at ORD)

I really don't think there will be many complaints. It sure beats having to connect in a "hub" city in which it takes more then 4 hours to get to ORD, verses flying nonstop. More expensive to fly "direct" though.

I think the flight is only about a couple hours from PNS-ORD, so not really anything lonnger than any other RJ flights these days. Personally, I would rather be on an ERJ than a CRJ for a flight of that duration. Actually I will be flying down to PNS this weekend via DFW to see the folks over in Orange Beach, AL, can't wait! Both legs are on the ERJ (CID-DFW/DFW-PNS)

I've never made the drive from PNS to Bama's gulf coast, how's that drive? It's about 1 1/3 hrs from MOB and an extra hour from GPT.

The timing is a bit odd. When I first saw the second flight on AA.com, I thought there must have been an error, but I guess not.

I'm not surprised to see AA go to a 2nd flight. The O+D demand between PNS and Chicago is enough to fill two 44 seat planes...not to mention any connecting traffic. AA has a real advantage over DL because they can fill their ORD-PNS flights with mostly higher-yielding O+D traffic, while DL flying PNS-CVG (in the past) was relying mostly on lower-yielding connecting traffic. I won't hold my breath that DL will bring PNS-CVG back, but it would be nice to have it back at least for the summer surge to relieve the often crowded PNS-ATL flights.

I don't see NW bringing MSP-PNS back anytime soon. I'd just be pleased to see some larger equipment on the PNS-MEM runs.

Dont expect to see ORD-GPT, as much as I would like to see it. MOB produces some rather expensive passengers through their airport, attracting all this business traffic, and they just replaced all their jetways with new ones, and are renovating the already modern terminal they have. GPT continues to sit there in the dust with those contractors, this construction is taking way too long and it is a bad image on an airport to look like a 3rd world country for more than a year  Sad

I just don't see any early morining flights which, the Military loves so forget that. Also, It doesn' t seem to match up with AA's afternoon pushes?

Good to see AA add another flight to ORD.....As for the DL PNS-CVG, from my experience in working alongside DL operations for a little over a year in PNS, I worked the PNS DL ramp under contract for awhile and I saw the CVG service come and go many times, when I first started on the DL ramp in August 05' Delta had a slew and I mean a bunch of terminators at night, including...CVG,TPA, FLL,MCO, JFK and for a brief while 2 88's. Then in December of 05' flights were cut back dramatically to only 1 terminator an 88 at night. The following spring things picked back up and CVG returned. I havnt checked the DL website but my guess is that CVG will come back to PNS for the summer.
As far as Airlink 9E service PNS-MSP returning, I certainly hope for the benefit of the flying public and those who I once worked with under contract for PNS Northwest Airlink that if the route ever returnes that a larger aircraft is used.
The CRJ easily has the range to do PNS-MSP, not fully loaded! You add on 44 passengers, a 50 seater was hardly ever used, and fuel and it can quickly become a nightmare in a half....I cannot tell you how many times I would have to bump people off the PNS-MSP flight because of wait restrictions...i.e. weather in route, the need for more fuel etc.
The flight sold out all the time, problem was you have a 44 seat flight booked to 49 and you are wait restricted to only 26 pax and the fun really begins, those days were crazy. If the route comes back use an A319 or 9 already...that of course in a 9E station will never happen. But we can hope and wonder.
In other PNS news...US is looking to possibly begin direct PNS-DCA service, PNS is competing against three other cities. The city of Pensacola is also working to land this new service, we shall see.

No THANKS! MSY's to far and a dump. (So I've heard) Not worth the gas nor having to pay for parking.

-Staring April 17th FL is adding another daily flight, which brings the number is nonstops flights to ATL to 5 Daily.
-Staring May 1st DL is adding CRJ-900 service to ATL. DL is also bringing in the first scheduled 737-800 flight (Comes Tuesdays overnights and leaves on Wednesday, This flight replaces the 757 evening flight on Tuesdays and the morning flight on Wednesdays)
-Staring April 3rd CO is flying IAH-PNS with CRJs and ERJs.

I haven't done it in awhile, but it's definitely under an hour -- well under an hour to get from PNS to Perdido and closer to an hour to get from there to the western part of Gulf Shores. The distance is minimal, but there's all that traffic on the beach highway.

What are the other three cities? Those DCA slots sure are coveted.

Ouch. Too far, absolutely. MOB's a stretch; PNS is beyond a stretch. A dump? That ain't so. Besides, you might get to fly on a mainline for a change  Wink

These 3:

seem more worthwhile than these:

Surely there are beaucoup flights from the Chicago and Atlanta markets to DCA already on DL, AA, and US. I know there are other considerations.

its a pretty easy drive, takes about 45 minutes out to Orange Beach, talking with people here PNS is definitely the prefered airport for the area (AL beaches) because its proximity is much closer than to MOB

no doubt!! those CRJs have always been full when I have flown that route, would be nice to see some new CR9's or Embraers on the route when they start coming in. On a side note, I have always wondered why nearby VPS has always been an NWA mainline station while PNS has been airlink??

I think a lot of it has to do with competition. For many years, NW was the only carrier offering mainline at VPS. Even today, other than NW only DL offers mainline and its only like 2xMD88's. With little competition, NW has been able to establish a strong customer base at VPS. PNS is a different story with more carriers and a lot more competition.
