according to orf.at, which does not mention the type and airline, a plane with 119 people on board oovershot the runway an skidded past some 100 houses... then they says it overshot the runway for 100 meters and came to a halt at a channel.

so, there are 100 houses within 100 meter of the end of the runway  Smile

all ended well, no injuries...

Glad to hear no injuries, could have been much worse. Kinda makes me glad I'm going with Cebu Pacific when I head for Bohol in Apr though.

The aircraft in question is RP-C3223 delivered to PR back in the late 90's.

The aircraft seems to have some structural problems, hopefully it won't be written off. It would be a shame, cause PR needs these aircrafts, and can't afford to loose them.

Echoing Drew's reply, not good considering how much PR is needing all the lift it can get... Thankfully, however, there were no major injuries. When I first saw the reply, I was picturing another accident like in BCD 9 years ago but thank goodness it wasn't that bad...

PR's TAC branch manager claims the aircraft is 2 years old so I'm getting some conflicting reports here.  boggled

Im also reading some conflicting reports regarding this.  scratchchin

The Manila Bulletin is reporting that:

"the aircraft was pulled back and turned around by engineers before it taxied over to the gate under its own steam."

And Ive read reports that the Aircraft is back in MNL? It seems to me the damage is minor.  crossfingers

This sounds like a small incident blown out of all proportion.

I have flown quite a lot in the Philippines mostly on PAL and my wife has flown mostly on Cebu Pacific. It would not be fair to weigh up one against the other. Both have at times had their mishaps, perhaps Cebu Pacific more than PAL particularly in the DC-9 days. Both fly Manila to Tagbilaran with A319/A320. I was there actually in December.

While on the subject I hope you have noticed my two recent photos in the database, two of only three photos on this site from Tagbilaran!

Sir, they are magnificent pictures.

This is my favourite one out of the two:

On the topic of Safety, both 5J and PR are up to par with safety. I would not even blink getting on either of these carriers.

Flown both carriers numerous times to DVO and CEB.

Here are some pictures of the crash itself.

Oh dear, she has certainly overan the end just a little too far ! But hopefully just superficial damage. Rather scarey though if one was on board.

You are quite right, I have no problems flying with them, in fact I have thoroughly enjoyed all my flights in the Philippines and am looking forward to doing more some time. I wish PAL would come back to London. They used to fly to London Gatwick many years ago. Right now I have a choice of no less than 15 airlines through from London to Manila and I think 5 to Cebu but no PAL. If I mix and match airlines, like Oasis then 5J onward, the choice is just endless.
