Oops! - I started a post on this about 1 minute before you:

"Biz Jet - Gear Trouble NOW Over Ontario, CA "

I have no attachment to mine per ce, but I move that the mods strike one of them so members won't feel obligated to follow both.

Peace.

Here's the thing, the emergency-checklist on some airplanes will actually guide you to retract the gear in that event, and do a gear up landing. They think its better to land it on its belly than to runoff the side of the runway. This lear had the same problem Jetblue had, only less severe.

Yeah, i did see this landing and it was quite like that i.e. The Main landing gears were touched and rolled up for a quite long then a usual time BUT it then touched the Node Gear on Runway (not in side runway , maybe because it was a small jet?) .

Anyways , I'm now thinking what would pilots and on-board passengers were thinking when they were going in circles to waste fuel .

A Lear 55 making an emergency landing at ONT juxtaposed with the Anna Nicole Smith fiasco: Surely the end of civil society as we know it.  Yeah sure

Is it possible on some A/C to have only the mains extended when the problem is limited to the nose gear? It seems to me this would be preferable to having a faulty nose gear extended with the mains, or no gear extended at all, especially if it had been a wing mounted bird.

Fly a Lear for a 44nm flight. Wow what a waste.

It could have been a charter flight re-positioning, a ferry from maintenance, etc...I agee, though, that if it was carrying the person intending to use it, that is quite wasteful over a distance that should be driven.

I have a hard time believing that given that it came from LAX the flight previous.

emergency landing at ONT

Glad everything turned out well this morning. Just a follow up to the story, the Lear actually landed at Chino (KCNO) and not ONT as previously reported. The plane circled over the Ontario area to burn off fuel before finally diverting to KCNO. A job well done to the pilot.

Doin' just fine thanks...

I agree, it is a waste, but remember, it is California. If the passenger's time was very important then it really isn't that much of a waste, seeing as it could take hours to drive that distance during rush hour.

First, I am from California. Second, the traffic is overrated. Third, at that time of morning, the traffic is non-existant.

I can believe one of these three statements. Care to guess which one?
