CocaineToxication On AF Flight CDG-AUH

Fri Feb 16, 2007 7:55 pm

yesterday the AF flight from CDG to AUH made an emergency landing at Turkey's capital Ankara. The reason for that was a passenger named Stive Hayoun who was getting worse over Turkish airspace. Even the tries of the FA's didn't help to make his poor health better. So the Captain got into contact with ESB tower to declare an emergency landing.
Around 2am in the night they landed safety at ESB where the ambulance already waited for them. They efforts to help the passenger weren't successful so they only could diagnose his dead.
The result of the autopsy was a toxication with kokain which Hayoun wanted to smuggle inside his body. The doctors estimates more than 50gr. of kokain inside his dead body.

50g is a tiny amount - nobody would risk getting caught for that much. Twice that, maybe, but not 50g.
What do you mean you dont have any bourbon? Do you know how far it is to Houston? What kind of airline is this???

Definitly. The average is surly higher than 50g!

Me too. They stopped AUH service sometime after 9/11. Their website also shows all flight schedules from AUH - CDG via AMS.

Air France still fly their B742F's into AUH, so maybe it was on one of those?

It's very lucrative, for the dealers. The couriers (in Spanish they are called "burriers" in reference to donkeys) make something like 2 to 5 thousand dollars, very little money compared to the risk. When they get caught, the dealers disappear, obviously, leaving them behind. There are dozens of smugglers that are stuck in Peru, either in jail serving their long sentences or in the country unable to leave. Their passports are confiscated for many years while they are on probation.

I know they are cargo planes, I control them often. I missed the bit about a F/A in the initial post. It's not uncommon for non-revs on Cargo flights. I have done it many times.

Actually they're called "mulas" in reference to mules, at least how we called in Colombia, and we've had our share of those desperate people, trust me.

Next flights: AV BOG-ADZ-BOG, AV-UA BOG-IAD-ORD-IAD-BOG, BOG-FLL-BOG, LA BOG-MIA-BOG J

Yes, what you say is correct. The "burriers" expression is from Peru, mainly, because it rhymes with couriers. We've had our share of those desperate people as well.

Due to harsh drug laws in the UAE 50g of cocaine has a VERY high street value probably on par with about 300g in Western Europe. And no I'm not a cokehead.

This is very common with flights from west africa to USA/Europe. our KL diverted to BCN (ACC-AMS) as a nigerian passenger fell ill, turn out on of those egg size filled cocaine bursted, he survived after an emergency operation, they manage to salvae 53 egg sized cocaine fillers
Next destinations, Suarabaya, beirut, paris, Accra

Air France doesn't have PAX flights to AUH.

Air France is not flying yet its passengers with feighters (though sometimes, they would deserve it !)

More seriously, this kind of problem usually occurs on our flights CCS-CDG or BOG-CDG ...

ACC, COO and LOS are the rising stars of this drug courriers fashion...as cocaine is now discretely shipped to Africa before being re-sent to the EU.
GRU and GIG and EZE vwere quite infamous for this as well
AF is major on these routes except ACC, and sadly there is no obvious solutions to avoid that
