Suggestions that a consortium including British Airways (BA) and Goldman Sachs is considering a bid for American Airlines parent company AMR have been dismissed by sources close to the companies.

Well, that sure put an end to the other thread. Thanks for the info. Long live an independent AA!

RE: Report Of AA Takover By BA Has Been Dismissed

"AMR and Industry Consolidation

"We have a policy of not commenting on industry consolidation as it relates to AMR. As such, we won’t speculate on what our potential role – if any – might be. If it becomes appropriate to comment further, we will do so."

This is AA's official word to flight attendants on the flight attendant website. Clearly not conclusive either way. The article mentioned above does not site official sources, so the information is pure speculation. Of course, a merger/buyout of AA by BA is unlikely, however, the quoted article does not disprove the report any more than any other article proves it.

Just to add a little fuel to the fire, remember over a year ago Arpey visited Willie in England to discuss a merger and the laws that would need to be changed to allow such a marriage. They talked openly then about their desire to forge a stronger relationship and a possible merger. Perhaps this is just another step in the exploratory process.
