Peru's Presidential 737 For Sale

Sat Feb 17, 2007 3:59 am

Alan Garcia, president of Peru, has announced that he will put the presidential plane up for sale in the near future. The link to the article (in Spanish) is below. If anyone can add pictures of the plane from the database, I would appreciate it.

http://www.elcomercioperu.com.pe/Edi...007-02-16/onEcPolitica0672321.html

There is specific information in the article regarding what it costs for the government to operate the plane. To make his point, Garcia has traveled to other countries using regular scheduled service and even traveling in coach.

Hopefully, another country could acquire it so it would not languish and deteriorate in a hangar.

The article claims that the plane is flown once a week so it can remain airworthy, costing the country thousands of dollars for nothing other than maintenance.

BTW can she use air-force 1(if she is in it, it wouldn't be called Air-force 1), in her previous visit to Iraq which aircraft she took?

But that was CO, Not the hot air windbag pelosi is, well, maybe shes counting the addred drag herhot air would cause the flight...

If there is enough hot air, she could be strapped to the back as a third engine.  Wink I don't know how Al Gore wold feel about all that hot air escaping into the atmosphere.

I'm no expert, but I think the 747's (VC-25's) are reserved for the president. It would not be good if the president had to leave Washington in an emergency and the only VC-25 available was having problems and the other was in SFO. Granted that scenario would be rare because of the work the Air Force puts into those planes, but they don't want to take any chances. The president could use a smaller plane in such a situation, but a smaller plane wouldn't be able to stay airborne as long and doesn't have the communication equipment of the VC-25.

I was just in Peru and Alan Garcia had a photo opp to show the plane he was selling and the one he was planning to use. It was a Falcon 20, built around the late eighties. I believe that this is irresponsible on his part. It was said that the Falcon 20 had a range of less than 3 hours. He can't fly to Europe on a state visit without having to stop a few times. No one believes he truly wants to save the government money. It's seen as a political move.

Mr. Garcia can always fly commercial to BOG and ask to borrow this jet:

Maybe they can start a "Presidential Code-Share" arrangement?

They can use Peruvian / Colombian flag and country "stickers" depending on who is aboard....
