772 @ FLL!

Sun Feb 18, 2007 5:00 am

As the title explains there was a DL 772 at FLL this morning. I saw it as I was driving up to Palm Beach and couldn't get a pic. For a second I thought it was a 763 but saw the Boeing 777-200 titles on it. Anybody have more info on it or ideas on why it was there?

No 777s shown on Flightaware. Stupid question, but could it have been a 764?

Delta has been known to substitute 777s for 767s here, now and then. And it's not entirely rare for 777s to visit FLL in the summertime, due to the occasional MIA weather diversion. In fact, I can remember one day that saw not one, not two, but *three* at the airport at one time. Two were AA diversions, and the other was Mid East Jet's N777AS, which just happened to be at the airport that day anyway.

Hmm...you sure about that? Maybe you should trust your initial instinct! I found these:

Hope this helps. Couldn't tell you why he was there though...

Thus the reason for my confusion; DL's Boeings don't carry those titles on them anymore (not since the old widget livery).

Good point, I'd never noticed that before.

The only reason I would have known if it was a B777 is by the very end of the plane. Also, DL did use B777's from MCO to ATL at times and I know that of the last few weeks the weather has not been to good in the MCO area. So maybe it was a diversion from their.

I know weather and ATC had our NWA flight 45 minutes late on 02/05/07. And I had a group of 23 that we where on our way to Carnival Cruise for the week. We got on just as they where doing the life boat drills. They were holding the boat for us to get there.

So who knows. But, the B763 do fly into and out of FLL all the time.

I checked the routing for all of our 777s for the 16th and 17th and found none of them going through FLL.

The best way to quickly tell if it is a DL 772ER vs. a 764ER is to look at the landing gear trucks. The tri-7s will have the center trucks in sets of threes vs. the set of two on all 767s.

If the engines, tail, and fuselage don't give it away first then yeah  Wink

If you were driving by, but were close enough to read those very small 777-200ER titles you should have seend all those differences to I think.

Or to note that there are, in fact, NO 777-200 titles on the airplane at all...  Smile
