Profitable Airlines On Indian Routes!

Mon Feb 19, 2007 7:01 am

I think the most profiable airlines on Indian routes are:
BA - Service from BOM, DEL to LHR
LH- Service from BOM, DEL to FRA
LX - Very profitable BOM- ZRH
DL- Also very profitable BOM-JFK-ATL
9W- Doing great on BOM-LHR, BOM-SIN Routes.
SQ- Doing Extremely Well BOM-SIN
Aslo, QR, Gulf Air, EK,- Doing very well in middle east

Can you thinl of any more ?

Not doing very well,
CX BOM-DXB, BOM-HKG VIA BKK
BR BOM-TPE
AI - Some of the Routes
OS - No Clue
SAA - BOM-JNB ?
KQ- BOM-NBO ?
Aeroflot ??

Can you think of any more ?

I guess Finnair is doing ok, as they just decided to expand their HEL-DEL service to daily. And will open a new route to BOM.

I would think TG deserves to be on that list...

Quoting B773ER (Thread starter):
BA - Service from BOM, DEL to LHR
LH- Service from BOM, DEL to FRA
LX - Very profitable BOM- ZRH
DL- Also very profitable BOM-JFK-ATL
9W- Doing great on BOM-LHR, BOM-SIN Routes.
SQ- Doing Extremely Well BOM-SIN

BA - DEL, BOM, BLR, CCU, MAA
VS - DEL, BOM (DEL upgraded to A340-600)
LH - BOM, DEL, BLR, CCU, HYD

As for 9W, at the present moment they are running a loss on LHR-India routes, but they should all be profitably by this year as mentioned in their investor presentation. LHR-BOM load factor has risen with BD leaving the route and LHR-ATQ has been upgraded to 6 weekly.

LHR-ATQ used to run three times a week, it has now been upgraded to six times a week until March end.

9W lost over USD 40 million in 2006 on their India-UK flights.

LH makes a killer too on the BLR route as does BA.

Does NWA make decent $$$ on the BOM route?

I would expect Thai too to be making good money on all their Indian services.

Im surprised to see that LX and DL are very profitable...I find this hard to believe.

I believe that AF too is doing well on BLR/DEL/BOM routes..esp BLR.

How are JL and MH doing?

The loads are pretty high on BOM-AMS segment through out the year. Of course, that might or not indicate profitability, but I remember reading long time back that it was a profitable route for NW.

I am not sure on TG and MH services to BLR being fully profitable. According to what I have heard, the weekend loads are pretty good, but weekday loads are nothing to write about!

How about UL? It flies to more destinations in India than AI.

It seems like TG is doing considerably better now - the operate a daily 333 (instead of the 300) and the loads are consistently high (based only on anecdotal inputs!). MH is another game altogether though, they continue with very unfriendly 3x pw flights to BLR.

Can't speak for LX but DL has been profitable since the first flight...

NW/KL consistently comes up as one of the cheaper options (if not the cheapest) for UK-AMS-BOM.
I am flying with them in May (after having promised myself never to fly with NW again about 2 yrs ago) & i got a deal for 308£ MAN-BOM-MAN. It was considerably cheaper than the other options from MAN & also transit times in AMS are better than other airlines.
So even though loads might be higher for NW AMS-BOM, I am not sure how that translates to profitability.

LH is doing very very well on all their Indian flights and they would even do if they could flight twice a day!

EK is also a big player at India as well as EY.

AI is based in BOM and should be doing pretty well on routes like BOM/DEL - LHR/FRA/JFK/ORD/EWR.....also Gulf routes like DXB/MCT/AUH/KWI/RUH/JED.....flights to SIN would also be doing well.....

Which would be the poor faring routes for AI....?

yes they would do if their Jumbos would fly. We see a lot of delays here at FRA due to maintenance reasons or defection of aircraft. For example the yesterday DEL flight stuck, because the aircraft had a problem at LAX.

Incidentally, their aircraft do "fly" and that's why they reach FRA for you to see.....   we're talking about profitable routes here, not about planes getting stuck once in a while, which happens to all airlines, some more, some less....

Incidentally, no one seems to have mentioned IC, who also have profitable routes to MCT/SHJ and a few other Gulf destinations, as well as BKK/SIN from Indian airports like DEL/AMD/MAA and BLR......

Don't forget about LH at MAA. Those flights also do really well for LH.
