Rumor: Changes Ahead At RegionsAir?

Wed Feb 21, 2007 12:17 pm

I heard some rumors that RegionsAir has hired some folks away from another airline, and the new people are planning to make some radical business changes...announcement of some sort is coming tomorrow apparently? Anyone else heard any whispers, pre-announcement?

I read they got a influx of cash from a new investor and that they are about to lose every EAS city in the American Connection system to Mesa. The communities they serve are all fed up with their high number of daily cancellations.

My Little brother flew for them a few years back. Hes gonna call some friends that are still there to see if he can find out something. He did say most his friends try to stay out the loop but hes gonna try.

They're no rumors... the guy at Mesa who blew up the old structure of the Hawaiian interisland market with go!'s fares is RegionsAir's new director of sales/marketing. He's a friend of mine, and though I don't know exactly what he's planning, I think we can all be pretty sure he's gonna dump the fares in their EAS markets. I mean, I just pulled some fares on AA.com and let's just say that those old $650 last-minute "walkup and pay through the nose" full-Y fares aren't there anymore... They want to build up those markets and stimulate traffic, and there aren't too many better ways to do it than cutting fares to rather more reasonable levels.

As for the operations, they just need to get the planes they have, back up and running. Once that happens, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few new markets open...
