CO CLE DH2 Routes

Thu Feb 22, 2007 5:02 am

Looks like HPN/JFK/MDT will be the first cities to see scheduled DH2 planes.

CLE - HPN - 0730-0915
HPN - CLE - 0935-1130

CLE - JFK - 1530-1725
JFK - CLE - 1750-2005

CLE - MDT - 1200-1315
MDT - CLE - 1335-1500

CLE - HPN - 0730-0915
HPN - CLE - 0935-1130

CLE - JFK - 1530-1725
JFK - CLE - 1750-2005

I think these two flights were previously E135 flights.

Yeah, CMH starts April 4th, and MSN, IND and SYR start May 6. Haven't found any others so far.

hopefully they do better than Freedom's DH2 JFK operation...that will kill people's love of CO real fast!

I imagine Horizon must have taken good care of these birds!

I'm sure it will. Commutair runs a good company, unlike Freedom, and these Dash-8s are well taken care of. They'll be just fine.

I'd like to see how the 25 minute turn in JFK works for them.

No, its not DH2, its DH8. Not much call for a round engined taildragger on scheduled flights.

No, DH2 is the IATA code for a Dash-8 Series 200

Likewise, DH1 is the -100, DH3 is the -300, and DH4 is the -Q400.

DH8 is the IATA code for all series Dash-8 models.

JFK is getting that A/C because, at least what I heard, the bins on the DH-8 are larger than those on the ER3.

A 25 minute turn shouldn't be an issue, as long as planning builds ground and taxi times into the flights. Turning the aircraft in 25 minutes itself is the easy part.

two hour block time from CLE to JFK-- that's got some serious cushion in there. Bet the flying time, even in a turboprop, is 60 minutes-- assuming no ATC delays.

These planes are a big drop in capacity if when replacing the ERJ45.

Will ELM be a destination for the DH2 a/c?

Are you sure about that flight time?

I used to fly COEX from ABE-CLE when they had turboprob service, and it always took 90-100 minutes...

B1900s are alot slower, but yeah, ERJ takes about 1 hr to JFK, so figure 1:20 for a prop.

Commutair will be starting SYR-CLE Dash8 Monday through Friday. Commutair has ended ROC-HPN and ROC-ELM, Commutair will drop ROC-CLE from 6 weekly to 1 weekly.

How's that for progress? I believe UA used 2 hour CLE-IDL block times for their DC-6B's. The airlines, which used to sell speed, are now running the schedules of 50 years ago.

As stated in another thread, so far all the new Commutair Dash8 flights are replacing ERJ's - not B1900's.

It's just smart. It's building in the fairly usual ATC delays that happen in/out of JFK. We have CLE-EWR flights that have like 1:50 block times, for that very reason.

Yeah its progress because that means the airlines are allowing for error into JFK. You are in the JFK system between 4p-10p be ready for massive delays, which is preceisly the thinking for the long block time.

Today's block times may be "smart" and unfortunately they are a fact of life - but I don't know how you call them progress.

It may not be progress, but it's better than a time 30 minutes less, and dealing with constantly being late.

I've been on both, and while the bins are slightly smaller on the DH8, there is more overhead space overall than the ER3.
