Aeroflot Buy 5 Second Hand A330s

Thu Feb 22, 2007 7:46 am

Very sorry , only in French , unable to find a link in English.

Aeroflot will buy (or will receive ???) 2 second hand A330s in 2007 , and 3 in 2008, till 15 in the coming years .
They are very close a 22 A350s order , which should be announced before year end.
Is it the end of the SU announcements saga ?

Is this 5 + 15 new or 5 + 10 new? Where are they going to get second A330s and what model?

A330 in a lovely SU livery? I can't wait to see them. Are they 332 or 333?

It is 5 + 10 at a future date. Probably all used and/or leased.

Ahhhhh. . . don't we wish! Remember, this is about the exact same stage that Aeroflot was at last year. They had decided on what they were going to buy (x22 787 & x22 A350) and were just awaiting the government to act. They didn't. Will it happen this time? I'm not holding my breath.

Here's an English translation. It's my own (I don't trust BabelFish or other online translation sites) so forgive any errors.

Quote:

Aeroflot, Russia’s largest airline, has announced that it will acquire five, second-hand Airbus A330 between now and 2008 at the same negotiating a larger contract for new aircraft.

Aeroflot’s assistant general manager, Lev Koshliakov, told Reuters that the airline was planning on buying two, used aircraft this year, three next year, and up to a total of 15 in the coming years.

“There aren’t any new aircraft available for another 12 to 18 months but we’re continuing discussions with Airbus. We’re currently looking for second-hand A330s”, Mr. Koshliakov said.

Aeroflot wanted to buy at least 22 Boeing 787, costing between $2.5 and $3 billion, as well as an equal number of Airbus A350. Deliveries are expected between 2010 and 2012.

Moscow, however, has refused to authorize financing for these contracts. Any new aircraft will not be delivered before 2014 due to increased global demand.

On Wednesday, an inside source at Airbus told Russian press agency Interfax that the company was about to sign a contract for 22 A350. Koshliakov said that such an agreement could be announced within the year, refusing to comment further on the matter.

Agreed. They are going to look incredible. The A330 seems to have a big tail, and that tail design of SU is going to be breathtaking on that.
Good goes around!

Here's what Aeroflot had to say, 2 weeks ago, about buying second hand aircraft.

http://www.kiplingerforecasts.com/ap.../XmlStoryResult.php?storyid=303579

Aeroflot wants new planes because "there are few A330s on the secondary market whose condition would satisfy us," the news agency quoted Okulov as saying. He said the first deliveries could take place in late 2008.

Also interesting is this...

Okulov said Aeroflot rejected a recent offer from Airbus and its parent European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. for A330s and A350s because the delivery schedule was unsatisfactory, and that the company expects to receive a new offer next week,

And then this yesterday...

The negotiations with Airbus have entered the final phase. The
concern has offered as early dates for starting the shipments as
possible, and although Aeroflot needs these planes even earlier, its
management understands that [Airbus] cannot make a better proposal," the
source said.

Just found this story that says no. -- at least as far as the 787 side of it.

Is this not another aircraft sale decision based on politics?

Yes, but that is how things are done sometimes... It's not unique to Russia and it's certainly not unique to commercial aircraft purchases.
