Trip Report: LBB-ABQ-SEA-RNO-PHX-ELP-LBB

Mon Jul 24, 2000 10:49 am

I know what your thinking. Wow, that's alot of stops and you right. This is the first time I've written a trip report, so bear with me.

LBB-ABQ - WN 934 - 737-300:

This was a very unevenful flight. I had a glass of orange juice. The FA's were nice and helpful. I spend most of my trip looking forward to about 2 1/2 hours in the ABQ obesevation area.

ABQ-SEA - WN 1385 - 737-700

This was my first flight on a 737NG. It was a very nice ride. A pleasant suprise I recieved was a snack pack called "Fast Food". It contained a turkey stick, stale breadsticks and cheese, and a granola bar. It was very filling for SW. As we approached SEA, we flew over downtown Seattle and Boeing Field.

SEA-RNO - WN 1726 - 737-300

This was the beginning of a very long day, but I didn't have to change planes. On our climb out of SEA we got to see Mt. St. Helens. It was very unevenful aswell. I had a Coke and peanuts. There wasn't anything going on at RNO.

RNO-PHX - WN 1726 - 737-300

Another 1 1/2 hours of nothingness, But I did see the BA 744 land at PHX.

PHX-ELP - WN 1726 - 737-300

Do I even need to say it? I think that SW should at least at a moving map display that you can stare at.

ELP-LBB - WN 1726 - 737-300

At least it was the last leg of the trip. We did fly over now closed Reese AFB on approach. The repeating terrian, desert got very boring.

The general review is that all of the flights were nice and enjoyable. But I did face most everyone's greatest fear, 6+ straight hours on Southwest (12:20 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.)

I did something like this too last year.

I flew HOU-AUS-ELP-LAX-SJC. We departed at 8:00 am and arrived back home in SJC at 12:30 pm (which is 2:30pm in HOU) I think.

This was also on SW.

Nice report by the way.

Nice trip report!

Do you think the snack bag you received on the ABQ-SEA segment was a SW test program, or have they started serving more than just the regular packet of peanuts/pretzels etc?

And I'd welcome six straight hours flying Southwest any day of the week!

I don't believe that the snack package is a test program. My dad has gotten on that flight and others before, and they have also gotten it on SEA-MCI. And I did enjoy the 6 hours on Southwest. I would fly them anyday of the week.

Nice trip report. The Fast Food snack packs have been around for quite some time. Last September on a AUS-HOU-BWI trip they served it on the HOU-BWI leg. I liked everything but the crackers. You weren't kidding when you said stale. It was kind of like stale bread.

Coming back, the routing was BWI-BNA-AUS withno change of planes. They served Dolphins (like Pepperidge Farm Goldfish) on the BWI-BNA leg and some kind of snack mix on the BNA-AUS leg. I've also seen some individually wrapped pastries served on morning flights and there's ususally free coffee, orange juice and donuts behind the podium at the gate areas during the morning hours, here in AUS anyway. If the flight segment is under an hour and a half usually all you will get is the peanuts and drink service.

I'll be flying AUS-PHX-LAX-OAK-LAX-AUS in two and half weeks, so I'll probably be bringing a little extra food on board with me. (Oink, oink).
