L'avion / Elysair - Loads Update ORY-EWR

Mon Feb 26, 2007 12:44 am

According to the French magazine Paris-Match of this week, the average load in january for the 5 weekly flights ORY-EWR-ORY by Elysair (B757, 90 seats all J class) was only 30%. An ADP representative said it happened several times that they came back to ORY empty. That doesn't sound very good.

Other than travel magazines like Voyages D'affaires, I have never seen any advertisement for these flights. In Voyages D'affaires it stated that there are lounges in Orly and Newark, yet I have never seen any lounges listed on the website for L'avion. It just doesn't seem like these flights were started with everything in place and the advertising to make them successful.

Less than 30% loads are not very good, expecially when they were selling tickets for $1000 roundtrip.

I'd love to fly them but I still find them expensive and one flight a day is so unpractical ... and they don't take the AmEx card!

I agree that there is no awareness of this new service anywhere, they need to get on board with American Express and other companies to help get the word out, participating in the New York Times travel show etc..

Since these flights have plenty of excess capacity right now launch a bunch of free travel contests on all the local news and business radio stations in the Tri-State area (WCBS, WOR, WABC, Bloomberg, WFAN etc..).

Giving away tickets to contest winners on radio programs such as Imus in the Morning, Curtis and Kubby, Mike and the Mad Dog, Joan Hamburg etc as part of their radio promotional tour would help tremendously in getting word out about their service.

An advertisement in the New York Times travel section along with some free travel to travel critics, or even a billboard near the Lincoln and Holland tunnels.
