United Premier Card, Why So Long To Deliver

Mon Feb 26, 2007 12:46 pm

i have a friend who acheived premier status with united, this was by the end of november 2006. until now he didnt receive the card, and every time he calls they tell him that they sent them in january in the mail and he should recieve it by the end of february. he still didn't receive it. on the other hand, my cousin acheived silver status with delta probably two weeks before the new year, and sure enough he got the card a week after completing his travel.

i am not trying to bash united here because they are my favorite airline and i am my self a premeir on them, but i am wondering, why is it that it takes this long to deliver the card? what if you need to travel international or another star alliance. and we all know how anal can some airlines be on you having the card, but they won't take the time and effort to verify that you are an elite with another partner.

I was just thinking the same thing yesterday. I am Premier Executive and havent received my new card for 2007. I dont know what the problem is. So far it has not caused any problems. Still it would be nice to get my new card, which I understand should come, under normal circumstances, by the end of February.

My VS card took forever to arrive too. According to the guy on the phone, they wait until there are a certain number pending, and make them in bulk.

I still haven't received my Delta Silver card for next year...push comes to shove, I have my Crown Room Card which works equally as well at check-in, but would like the new card.

As for UA, I've heard they always have problems - I have a friend that qualified for 2P back in early December that still hasn't gotten his (to my knowledge) and there are annual threads at this time of year on FlyerTalk complaining of this exact problem in the UA forum.

I received my 1K card last week. They should be in the mail. Don't forget - your last year's status is good until the following February.

It's because it takes time to print and thermal image your cards.

Remember each airline must finalize their respective mileage for the year for each member. Also, their qualifying air mileage from each airline partner must be merged. Usually this info is finalized 2 weeks into the new year. This information is then forwarded to the print shop / lettershop vendor so the cards can be printed and imaged, as well the letters, booklets, envelopes and other pieces parts. The lettershop takes a minimum of 4 weeks for printing and preping for mailing. After they are finished they drop it into the mail stream where it takes up to another week to get in hand.

If you get your card before the last week of February you are doing very well.

Hi. So, even though it's always nice to get the new shiny card, you really do not need it. For priority check-in you can just tell the agent that you're "sans card" and they usually can confirm your status at their computer. Then your status is written on the boarding card and you can show that at the lounge. (And, for what it is worth, I have successfully done both.)

Yes, it's a bit more inconvenient, but in the end you can still get the services you are entitled to; as long as the computer shows the right status of course!

BTW, AC was really early with the package this year! I think it arrived in January!  Smile

Safe flying,

this is in case you are flying exclusively on the airline you have the status with. when you fly one of the code share partner or alliance, in my case (UA/LH) LH were very anal about me having the card, it took a bit of argument to have them let me check in at the business class/star alliance silver check in desk. showing them my statement printed online didn't satisfy the DNATA personell in Dubai who didn't know what "premier" is.

Agreed. I am Premier Exec and have yet to ever present my card. As long as your MP number is in your PNR, your status is logged and printed on your boarding pass. You really don't need the card, at least in my experience.

Just received our cards in the last week. No reason to fret as long as your status is in your profile.

It depends! Several years ago I knew I had flown enough miles to become gold with AC, but I hadn't got the card yet (or any communication regarding that for that matter). However, I was flying on UA and when I was checking in at SFO the agent said

Oh, you're Gold!
Really? They hadn't sent me my card yet.
It doesn't matter, the computer says you're Gold, so you're Gold.
Can I get in the lounge then?
Sure. Just show your boarding pass with your status written on it and they would let you in.

...and they did. And that was my first *A lounge experience (and it was a good one! it was in the newly opened International terminal at SFO and the UA lounge had all sorts of goodies...).

But, you are right; recently I've had problems getting LH to recognize my AC Gold status and pre-assign me "good seats" and they do ask for my card at check-in. I really wish they will sort this out soon.

Good to hear I'm not the only one. They supposedly starting shipping out a couple of weeks ago, but it hasn't made it to my PO Box yet (and I'm checking every day since I'm expecting a few cheques any day now).

A lower level of MP Elite - basically Premier, but no bonus miles. Lowest on the totem pole for upgrades as well, but do get E+ seating, priority checkin, priority security, *Silver. You can't earn this status per se, it's a gifted status by 1Ps and 1Ks, as well as stories of 1Ps being soft-landed (fail to qualify for 2P the next year) getting this status level.

This was a program where a Premier person could give the gift of Premier Associate to someone they know. They are basically like being Premier. I really don't like this because they didn't earn it.

I became Premier Executive on Dec 8 and still haven't gotten my new cards. I am still using our Premier cards which are 1.5yrs old now and are getting worn. If I don't get it by next week I would have flown 25 segments since Jan 1 without my Premier Exec cards.

I don't know about you but I wish you would get little things like a Premier bagtag, maybe discounts off flights etc like some other airlines. Hey but at least they have channel 9 and Economy Plus

This thread can give you a lot of information on Mileage Plus 2007 elite membership kits. Go towards the end of the thread, it seems like many Premier Execs are getting their kits but not down to Premiers yet.

my 2006/2007 card expires today and i still didn't receive the new one, so i called UA and they said this time that i should get it before march 8. its funny how they say different things every time. but shouldn't be a problem after all the posts assuring me that its fine. i think the only airline within star alliance that has a problem with you not having the card is lufthansa. Usarways/America west, were fine with it.

Did you try lufthansa's specially made Schnapps ? (Some 60 year old special drink made exclusively for Lufthansa, they recently re-introduced it ? LH's lounge (depending which one your in) at FRA is not bad, though the one for US/UK flights is starting to look a little Jaded !

I am Premier Executive for some years now and I always get my new card too late. Validity is thru Feb 200x and they deliver the new card mid march. Usually it is not a problem: the status and number are printed on the ticket. But yesterday I used the lounge in AMS, which is not a specific Star Alliance or United or Red Carpet Club lounge but a general lounge used by several airlines without a own lounge at AMS, and they demanded that they should see my card. I told the woman at the desk that the status and number is on the ticket but she said: 'I'm only doing my job'. Luckily I received my new card on Saturday, right on time for this one, but two weeks ago I was lucky they didn't ask, I guess.

Another question on Gold (I've just missed 1K for the last two years now.. Usually they allow check-in and boarding with business and first class. But I've noticed at IAD they privilege the group of First, Business, Global Members and 1K. Premier Executive just has to go in the big Economy line. Why did they axe this privilege?
There's still a long way to go before all the alliances deserve a star...

After having not had any status with UA for a few years, I hit Premier at the end of January of this year, and never got a card. I hit Premier Exec at the beginning of March, and at the rate that I am going, I will hit 1K before I ever see my Premier Exec card. Fortunately for me, I don't have any plans to fly any international trips on any other *A carriers anytime soon. As for all of my trips on UA, just having the status showing up on my boarding passes has been enough.
