Hi I am planning to take Orient Thai over this summer and i was just curious:

i havent found any picutres of Orient Thai lately on Anet and i was wondering if there still in service on the BKK-HKG route.

Secondly i visited their site and they dont seem to have a reservation option, how do i book tickets with Orient Thai Airlines?

thanks

Tim

sorry if this seems idiotic i dont know who else to ask but the experts and professionals of Airliners.net

Tim, To my knowledge, Orient Thai does in fact still fly a few classics, The best way to answer your question regarding reservations would be to simply call the airline. As far as fleet, I know they have a few 757 and Md-80 A/c now, im not sure if they codeshare or if these are theirs. Anyone else, please fill him in

I know that Orient Thai operates multiple older 747s like the 741s and 742s but im not sure about their operatoins.

Does anyone have additional information?

I have seen them on multiple occasion flying in older 747s into HKG but since then i haven't heard much or seen them much on airliners.net or in person!

anyone know how to reserve tickets or if they are still in operations?

thanks again!

They operate 743's I think with 1 or 2 being for KLM a/c.

Flew into HKT from KUL last year and the oldest looking 747 I have ever seen was parked in the next bay as we taxied in. Yes it was the famous Orient Thai 747. It may well be the most well maintained jet going around. But I must tell you from looking at it you cerntainly dont want to fly on it. I arrived by the way an an ancient looking MH 737 so I didnt feel that much better!

HS-UTM comes to Hong Kong everyday. B741SUD. One of the oldest regulars we have.

I think numerous JL 742 have gone to Orient. I think the retiring 747-300 are also going to Orient Thai.

Yes, they're pretty much in business. I saw one of 747 took off at HKG on Feb 26.

Numerous domestic flights using MD-82's (substituted sometimes with 747/757)
Lots of charter operation
Hong Kong flights are operating as usual

Currently they have 8 747 (747-100SUD, 747-200, 747-300), 1 757, and 4 MD-82.

I believe this is the current OX 747 fleet:

HS-UTB B747-246B WFU Don Muang DMK
HS-UTC B747-238B Active
HS-UTD B747-146 Leased to SV for Hajj
HS-UTH B747-146 Scrapped Jakarta CGK
HS-UTI B747-246B WFU Don Muang DMK
HS-UTJ B747-246B Active
HS-UTK B747-306M Active
HS-UTL B747-3B5 Leased to GA for Hajj
HS-UTM B747-146B SR SUD Active
HS-UTO B747-346 Active
HS-UTP B747-246B WFU Phitsanulok PHS
HS-UTQ B747-146B SR SUD Active

Don't know if UTD/UTL are back yet from GA/SV.

Timetables are at www.fly12go.com

747s fly to HKG (OX 200/203), BKK-ICN (OX 300/301), HKT-ICN (OX 310/311)

As stated above, UTM/UTQ usually fly to HKG since they are -100SRs with 563 seats.

Domestic is MD82 on all flights, but 747s often used especially on Thai holidays to HKT/CNX.

Hong Kong airport's flight info shows that they are still flying (http://www.hongkongairport.com), my impression is that delays are quite frequent on this airline.

Off-topic: does anyone have an update of Thai Sky's L1011s. Are they back in service or still parked at old BKK airport?

I believe they are still parked up at DMK. There was certainly no evidence of them in the week I recently spent at BKK.

I think your best bet is to just go to their ticket counter in BKK or call their reservations office before your trip.

Yes, they're still in service, but that isn't necessarily good news. Is there any chance you could fly another airline? A friend here in Seoul had a horrible experience with Orient Thai on a r/t trip to Phuket a few months ago: outbound flight delayed almost 24 hours, trouble reaching ticket office to find out what was going on, dreadful onboard service, plane in poor condition, return flight almost as bad but at least it left the same day. The fact that it was my friend's first time flying and first time leaving Korea still makes me wince when I think about how badly this trip went.

The best help I could offer to you would be to find another carrier. The very fact that they don't even have online reservations is warning enough. Honestly though, I've been told of many bad experiences on that airline. Thai International is a much better alternative.

haha sorry this is hilarious, yes i know orient thai is a really really bad airline, but you see my friend ( a buddy from the states) he's really into vintage 747s and he wanted to fly on a 100 or 200 series and so we're doing this mileage run in Asia:

HKG- Macau (on ferry)

Macau-SIN (Tiger Airways)

SIN-Bangkok (Air Asia)

Bangkok-HKG (Orient Thai!)

anybody have better suggestions for a practical but cheap mileage/ airline run in SE Asia from Hong Kong?

thanks again for all your help

I flew them last year BKK-HKT on a MD-82, had no problems at all in any point of the trip, easy check-in, flights left on time, aircraft was in good condition, even got a packet of nuts and a drink  Wink

https://www.fly12go.com

This site has on line booking if that helps

The only information I can give you is that I saw last week in Monrovia Roberts (Liberia) a 743 of Orient Thai making a special UN flights trasporting Pakistan troops to this country due to unsafety ethnic problems.

If you and your friend are really into vintage, fly Orient Thai between Hong Kong and Bangkok, then catch the Bangkok Airways BAe146-100 to Siem Reap, Cambodia. Catch some of the internal flights within Cambodia: there are all sorts of junks there including Antonov AN-24! The other place to go to is the Philippines, the smaller domestic airlines there also fly a whole bunch of unsafe-looking vintage! Make sure you double your travel insurance if you choose to do this!

I flew with Orient Thai from HKG-HKT-HKG on their 747 in October and I have never been on such tired looking aircrafts. They seems to be very much go by the name 'One 2 Go' rather than Orient Thai. Hot meals are served though.
