Wed Feb 28, 2007 5:09 am

N201UU is undergoing ETOPs modifications and should return to service around March 1 sporting blended winglets.

Where is it undergoing the mods at? And where will it re-enter service? Will it be at PHX to do the Hawaii runs until US starts 757 routes to Europe?

Not likely since these aircraft are also being fitted with new interiors and a completely new Envoy (ala 333) section. Can you imagine the outrage from the flip-flop hawaii crowd if they were to get one of these for 3 months and then have it replaced with the existing HP 757. But then again, US has been known to do crazier things.

Not possible. That aircraft is on the US certificate and only able to be flown by US crews. The PHX-HNL service is on the HP cert. and flown by HP crews only.

So does this mean it will probably be going to SXM in the near future?

I'm willing to guess Europe mostly as it has Winglets and SXM is not pushing a 757's range. As more wingleted A/C enter the fleet, expect them to put them on the SXM run as more than 1 will be availible for Europe services.

The to be upgraded 757s are being redone and wingletted specifically for PHL-Europe routes to compete favorably with with CO, etal.. Where these aircraft are used during the off season is anyone's guess. Obviously the best use for them is on premium routes which fill the almost flat bed Envoy with paid customers, such as PHL-SFO, PHL-LAX, etc., but I wouldn't be surprised if they were used on select Caribbean routes. Later, according to Parker in response to an Analyst question, some non-Europe 757s (presumably Hawaii routes) may be wingletted (but without the Envoy upgrades). A blended winglet on these 757s will only increase the range by about 100-150nm. The big advantage during long haul operations is a savings of about 5% in fuel.

Incorrect.... The change over to a single certificate is not expected to take place until Summer 07. March 4th is cut over to Shares from Sabre, or to a single Res System. Something completely different than operating under a single Operators Certificate.

I would like to add my Kudos to US. I think the 75 in the new CS with Winglets will look very nice. Looking forward to see the first 330 in the new CS also.......And possibly a 340...

Talk is that US may be acquiring 340s from AC when their 777s arrive later this year. Talk is of 5 - A345s, but AC does not have that many. I'm thinking more along the lines of 343s. They would be compatible with the 333s that US currently operates.

I think US will get the A340. If they want to start more long range runs, they need this plane as the A333 cant do trans pac runs.

Considering they get the go ahead to do so by the DOT, I would think... If Parker wants to do a PHL-TLV route, I think the A340 might work; I don't know if he intends to do any routes like that, or if he intends to serve Eastern European markets like Moscow, or Kiev, or Krakow or Warsaw...

The 332 can, and those are coming. I just can't see US buying those 340s outright...more of a stopgap lease which would be returned when the 332s arrived.

I don't get why US wants into China. They have zero presence in Asia. They should continue to grow the European markets, and rely on their Star Alliance partners for the Asian markets.

I'm still a bit sketchy about the range of the aircraft. It seems pointless to buy an aircraft with one of, if not the, longest ranges available commercially and then fly it between PHL and ATH. (Assuming they don't get China/etc)

Well... Asia is a big place. If they don't get China, they can always go for HKG, ICN, KIX, NGO, SYD, or MNL. (in 2009 they could apply for NRT slots but their chances would be very very low). There is also the Indian market. I think that no matter what if they get A345s, they can find a way to use them and probably not to Europe.

Forgot to post the point directly related to this thread.

If you go to www.200scale.com you'll be able to see a picture of it. Well a picture of a model.
I actually got the model a month ago and it looks awsome! Very detailed model.

I would think that this deal might hinge on whether or not China is awarded to US. Truthfully, US doesn't need the 340 for anything else right now, unless they want to fly direct PHX-Europe.

Sure, but the questions are: from where, nonstop and / or with a decent payload ? If they want to fly trans-pac from PHL, the A340 makes sense.
Exceptions confirm the rule.
