Aviation Spotting In India

Wed Feb 28, 2007 10:22 am

I am interested in finding out the legality of aviation spotting and photography in India. What is the general feeling of people taking pictures of airplanes or hanging around the airports?
Thanks

Photography is now permitted on the ground on non-defense airports. However it's still not a "mainstream" activity, and you're generally still hassled quite a bit when taking pictures. There were a couple of threads on this on http://www.airliners-india.net

I would second Nimish opinion, as a spotter in BOM, it is getting real difficult to find new locations to spot since more and more land is being taken in by Mumbai International Airpots Authority.

PM me if you have any queries

As Nimish said , you can take pictures at non defense shared airports but you may still get be stopped from doing so.
In flight photography is fine though.

Secondly most of the international flights are late in the night , or way too early in the morning, when you are just too tired or not in the mood for anything. So if you want to take pics of the big birds it may be difficult.

Some official links for you, you may want to take a print out.

A link to a newspaper article for the same.

Forget the mood/strength. Most likely the light is not at all good enough for the taking pics.
