FL To Start IND-SEA Non-stop?

Wed Feb 28, 2007 11:29 am

Now this came from my sister who lives in IND talking to a FL ticket agent?

She said that it is to start in June sometime?

Anyone hear of this? Wonder if NW will resume IND-SEA? Is it loaded?

IND-SEA is seasonal. It returns June 7th. And if FL starts that route I'm thinking NW makes the SEA route year round.

BTW is it possible she meant a NW agent since that route starts in June? I honestly don't see FL starting that route here. But I could be wrong.

That would require the traffic to be year-round. The market is highly seasonal and, even as of now, Northwest fills planes largely thanks to some good cruise ship contracts they have out of Seattle, which is also why the route is running only through the "peakest" of summer travel, rather than the typical entire summer timetable.

On NW by the way (just for clarification).  Wink

I could see it, though it might be a couple of years down the road.

I didnt think YX would start MKE/MCI-SEA n/s either........

IND is a focus city for FL and with the new airport less than a year away, it would make sense. You can't get a seat on the NW SEA-IND flight. Im shocked that it is not already year round.

There is nothing to be shocked about. You can't get a seat because most are pre-sold by contracts Northwest has with cruise companies to block seats on the route. Of course it is hard to get a seat. These contracts only exist during the very peak of summer cruise travel to Seattle, and Northwest clearly has no interest in serving the market without those contracts.

I flew this route in July. 100% full flight with standbys. It is a good route, as it is not saturated, but it sounds like it might be. Any news for SeaTac is nice. AF to CDG, YX to MCI and MKE, AA to AUS, and now FL to IND. Sounds like business is picking up! I hate to quote Borat, but, "I like!"  biggrin

I find it a little hard to believe that IND O/D traffic could fill this daily flight. I understand that a contract "Helps" the flight but when I tried all last summer, I still could not get on the n/s flight both ways.

IND as a focus city for FL makes it a much better connection to the east coast (JFK, BOS, IAD,...etc) than ATL would be. Considering how well the ATL flights went for FL (granted still surprised they did not go year round) It would not surprise me at all if this rumor turns out to be true.

According to faremeasure.com the number of people flying IND-SEA daily is 359.
