EK To USA Update 2007

Thu Mar 01, 2007 2:55 pm

Hello Again World,

Had a nice chat with my Exec. friend from EK USA, and he has an update for me.

Due to there current fleet  Wink Emirates will stay away from the west coast of the USA in 2007, but will start serivce to 2 cities this year. He would only say the "East Coast" and Texas.

So my guess is IAD and IAH...Anyone else?

All the best...JD

EK to IAH has already been announced and there is a thread in this forum. IIRC, it will be on the 777-200LR and will not start daily but will eventually be upgraded to daily once enough aircraft arrive. I want to say 3 times a week at first.

"East Coast"

First I thought ORD would be next destination along with IAH. But "East Coast" shouts out IAD to me, unless they go for EWR for some strange reason. EK has a habit of going to neighbouring airports, (LGW LHR).

USA in 2007

If they are getting two new routes in 2007, that means it's either coming in december, or IAH will be the third destination, not second.

EK is watching the USA aviation very carefully
a friend of mine who works in EK headquarter in Dubai, told me that the airline recruited 5 full-time employees just to study the American markets (North & South America).
I believe their expansion will be based of studies and analysis

All the best EK, one day you will be the aviation leader

This is an opportunity for EY to jump in and take LAX  Smile

Well London merits this dual service as it is a huge city, slots are hard to come by even with EK's bottomless abank account and they are picking up enough traffic.

On top of this they are recruiting Spanish speaking FAs with major interview session going on in Paraguay, Nicaragua and Honduras.

They are coming, there is no doubt about that, but i think that there will not be direct effect on the USA airlines because there is no flights operated by americans to the Gulf region

That is until May when DL starts their nonstop ATL-DXB route.

Delta isn't the first. United Airlines flies Washington-Kuwait City.

Thinking about EK and their Hub and Spoke system....

One of my first guesses would be ORD, IAH and IAD.

These locations have a high number of people from the Sub Continent (Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka...)
and with departure times from the US similar to JFK's departure time will yield great connection times to these countries.

My guess is they'll go into IAD, as AI some time ago.

However, with Etihad's increasing flights to India, I'd bet that, if EK starts to IAD...then EY will start to ORD...and vice versa.

In a recent development Halliburton is moving its corporate headquarters to Dubai while maintaining a corporate office in Houston. In my opinion IAH DXB has now become a certified cash cow months before launch.

No doubt that after the Halliburton move, IAH-DXB will become a priority for Continental.

It will have to be in 2009, however.

No doubt.

Personally, I would think 1 daily 787-800 total would be the right amount of capacity, and Continental would be the right carrier for the job.

However, with Emirates flying the route with a 777-200LR, they will no doubt depress the yield Continental would be able to get.

Yet again, however, I might be wrong and there is sufficient demand to fill both, in which case Continental can command a yield premium on a much cheaper cost base.

CO will have the connecting traffic and the IAH corporate accounts in its favor.....EK will have the business of the DXB-based corporations with operations in the IAH area most likely...overall, I think both can be successful, as there's tons of oil-driven business demand in the Houston area.

I would now hazard to guess said route would be a 787-9.  Smile
