A much slower year than the last two for the 737. I wonder where all the 737 orders have run off to? Good to see the wide body orders are doing well though. Another surprise order for the 767, I wonder who it could be that placed it.

I think the 767 will do extremely well this year. Boeing has morethan enough bridging between the 767 and the 767-200LRFX for the KC-X

I thought the 737 line was sold out for sometime?

Looks good with all those widebody orders!

Wonder when the BA order will post up their?

Who woulda thought the 767 would be leading the Boeing order race this year?? I suppose it is the only widebody that has order availability in the short term and it is a solid, passenger pleasing plane. I wonder what kind they are?

Also wondering if Airbus isn't talking with customers about the 320E, causing some hesitation. For that matter, Boeing may be talking with customers about Y1, also casuing some hesitation. Seems likely there'll be some large 737 replacement orders in the next few years, big customers may be thinking about how to split (or avoid splitting) between 737NG and Y1 as they transition (not that they want to split between two models, there may just be no way to avoid it given the large numbers of aircraft needed and Boeing picking some point in time to switch over)..

So the Azerbaijan press release may have been inaccurate in stating a total of 468 orders for the 787.

Oddly enough, availability should be terrible since I believe Boeing has slowed the production rate to something like one a month (as of 2003) to stretch them out as long as they can until the KC-767 order is approved (Boeing hopes).

Boeing did indeed cut it down to 1 per month, but remember that in wake of the UPS order Boeing also announced that they were upping production back to 2 planes per month, so there's indeed some availability again. And I'm sure that if Boeing sees the demand, they could also go up to 3 per month.

Probably the airlines figure since they can't get them for about five years they might as well wait and see what else develops (Y1, A320RS, UFO's, whatever.)

Indeed, many of the orders might have been "topping-off" orders to hold them over till around 2012 when it appears Y1 could conceivably be EIS'd and the A320E, at least, should be available for sale.

Oh dear! What a terrible book to have after 2 months. Sure, the 787 continues its steady rise. The 777 holds steady. The 767 experiences a miraculous resergence. But the 737 has collapsed! And with that, any hope Boeing has of remaining top. Without a selling narrowbody, no amount of widebody performance will enable Boeing to rise above the juggernaut that is the A320. And with the A330F, the widebody battle has become more heated so Boeing can't rest on its laurels there either. Being smaller and lighter than the 777F, it has a larger market.

I think Boeing would rather have a their order book than the problems that are enveloping Airbus.

Two months doesn't make their entire year. The next ten months will make the year both manufacturers.
BTW, I think Airbus is going to be floored when Boeing goes to Paris at the end of June.

Well stated, NYC777. This is so far starting out as a GREAT year for (higher margin) wide-body sales at Boeing. There are really no gaps in Boeing's line-up. They're burning on all cylinders now, and the 787 + 747-8 programs are both on-track.

I believe Boeing's orders at the end of February are about equal to what they were last year at the same point, the year in which Boeing had its best sales performance ever on the commercial side.

And as NYC777 pointed out, above, I doubt Boeing would want to swap positions with Airbus right now, even if they are lagging them by a 2 - 1 margin.

Well that's comforting to know, but I don't believe Airbus was doing that much better at the time. Whereas now they are thanks to the A320 and the A330F.
