Sat Mar 03, 2007 2:35 am

Just checking EWR traffic. Is this some sort of typo?

No mistake, this is a regular flight.

The flight runs daily between EWR and DUS and return with the A319, it is operated by Privatair for Lufthansa.

It is a A319CJ the counterpart of BBJ resp. BBJ2. It has Business Class seating.

Another All Business Class BBJ of said Privat Air plies the route AMS - IAH (should be the longest sector of Privat Air's scheduled ops for LH, LX and KL).

They have mad range - they do an ER/LR version that I believe the Privatair ones are - I know AF have some as well. They do CDG - Baku and various other former Soviet oil republics and thats a bit of a trek - also long runs down to West Africa as well as I recall. I understand AC used to do YYR - BOG nonstop and thats an absolute mission as well. They serve St John's Newfoundland to LHR with it also.

Not sure what the longest A319 run is. I think there was a thread about it actually.
What do you mean you dont have any bourbon? Do you know how far it is to Houston? What kind of airline is this???

Do a search on PrivateAir. There are several threads on this EWR-DUS service with their A319LR on behalf of LH.

Examples:

9.45 seems a very long flight time DUS-ORD. I would have thought about 8 hours? :S

At first glance, I thought it was a regular 319 and not a juiced up business class version. Thx for the info.

DUS-ORD - the highest MTOW rated A319s would miss it only by a couple of hundred miles would be my guess. EZY for example have the lower MTOW ones and they are nowhere near it, but Tunisair (i think) and AF's LR ones probably wouldnt be that far away.

Oh and FYI - Privatair do AMS-IAH with a 737-700 - I know its a BBJ-spec one, but still - Mad range! That has to be 11 hours.

This kind of gives me a new found respect for the smaller A/C in regards to range.

The important factor would be the extra fuel tanks that can be ordered for / installed in both the BBJ/BBJ2 and the A319CJ.

FRA-ORD (on bigger jets with 2 & 4 engines) which is only slightly longer is also listed as 9.20 to 9.40h duration.
Return ORD-DUS is listed as 8.30h

Privatair also operate an all-business class BBJ (737-700) MUC-EWR for LH, and an all-business class BBJ2 (737-800) ZRH-EWR for LX.

The two longest nonstop scheduled routes on standard 737-700s (not BBJs) are both operated by Copa (CM) from PTY to MVD (2941 naut. miles) and EZE (2879 naut. miles) with flying times of about 7 hrs. southbound and 7.5 hrs northbound. The 3rd longest standard 737 sector may be Air Pacific who use a 737-800 NAN-HNL twice a wsek (2748 naut. miles).

The Privatair BBJ operated for KL AMS-IAH is by far the longest of the scheduled BBJ or equivalent A319CJ sectors at 4356 naut. miles and a westbound time of just over 11 hrs (9.5 hrs eastbound).

Daimler-Chrysler has operated an A319CJ as a corporate shuttle in a 48-seat all-business class configuration for several years. It operates regular service at least once a week beetween their headcquarters (and home of Mercedes-Benz) in Stuttgart and Detroit. They also make it available for charters when not needed for their own use. They also have several smaller business jets.

More on the Daimler-Chrysler A319CJ:

I believe the only standard A319 (i.e. not the CJ model with extra tanks) operating on the Atlantic will be AC's YYT-LHR service starting next month (seasonal service April-September),but that's a much shorter sector at just 2012 naut. miles (5 hrs eastbound and 5:35 westbound). I'm sure it will also be the only narrow-body transatlantic scheduled flight to/from LHR.

I often fly RUH-CDG (next March 6-10) on AF's A319 ER (82 pax only - they don't call them LR) and it's 7 hours block time! Amazing machine!

This enabled AF to serve previously unprofitable destinations like JED (which used an A332 stopping in CAI with a change of crews).

But the take-off time is looooong... Even with the -115 engine, it struggles to take speed and climb fast. Still I like the coziness of the A319 to A320 or A321.

Excellent service on board even in Y (although sub-standard to a standard long-haul product)

I wonder why other Airbus carriers in Europe don't use their 319, 320, 321's on transatlantic routs. Maybe not a JFK or BOS route, but somewhere smaller that doesnt need a heavy.

I'm almost certain the only routes operated for LH by Privatair so far are from DUS and MUC.

Most routes would need fuel stops, increasing the costs and decreasing passenger appeal. So it makes more sense to route the pax via hubs.
Exceptions confirm the rule.
