Correct. Pan Am never served LIM
. They had rights along the east coast of South America and Panagra (50% owned by Pan Am and 50% by the W.R.Grace shipping company) had rights to serve the west coast of South America and to Buenos Aires via LIM
. Pan Am served Argentina and Uruguay on the east coast route via Brazil. Pan Am and Panagra operated some interchange services via Panama City, eg. MIA
using Panagra aircraft and crews, but north of PTY
they were technically Pan Am flights using their traffic rights.
Braniff brought Panagra in 1967. That's where Braniff's first DC-8s came from. Panagra also had several long-range DC-8-62s on order at he time of the merger which were delivered to Braniff.
Braniff leased their South America routes to Eastern in April, 1982 in an effort to generate cash and stave off liquidation, but less than a month later Braniff suspended service.
Eastern sold the South American routes acquired from Braniff to AA
in 1990, also in an effort to generate cash when EA
's financial situation began to seriously deteriorate. EA
only lasted about a year longer before suspending service in 1991.
