Etihad To Decide Year-end On Order(s)

Thu Mar 08, 2007 4:48 pm

Quote:
"Both manufacturers have submitted bids, which we are currently evaluating as part of our 10-year fleet growth plan," Geert W Boven, Etihad's executive vice-president for sales and services told Gulf News on the sidelines of the International Tourism Bourse (ITB) - the world's largest travel trade meet - which kicked off yesterday in Berlin.

"We are currently assessing them and might make a decision later this year."

10-year fleet growth plan indicates that this order won´t only comprise A350/B787 but equipment which is available earlier.

They were also after some frieghters weren't they?

I smell a possible A330/A350XWB combo order here and perhaps some more A380s as 4 is a very small fleet?

Remember they got the A380's very cheap, because they are the testing aircraft, maybe they never really were interested in the A380, but because it was cheap they decided they could use it on the LHR route.

True, forgot that they were getting the practise planes - maybe they're like my ex "I didn't really need it but it was so cheap I had to buy it!"

Indeed I think their focus would be on the 330/350XWB or 777/787 combo or a mix of them, or what ever...maybe Airbus can throw in some A345/6s with good prices and earlier availability than the 777s. Anyhow I just don't see them using further A380s in the middle-east.

I think they will stick just a few A380s just to show they can have one as well as EK

Their A380 order sounds like a 'me too' effort. After market value of their interm aircraft will be important, if they will not be keeping them long.
