Air Canada 777 First Flight.

Fri Mar 09, 2007 5:03 am

Some of you on previous threads were wondering about when ACs 777s first flight was going to be.

I just got off the phone with the 777 Chief Pilot (actually called Fleet manager) who told me this morning that some changes have been made to the original plan. The original date has moved around some, but as of right now departure will be at 0700 on the 31st of March.

Some YVR spotters were excited that the aircraft was going to be flown to YVR, but that has been scrubbed. The flight will fly direct to YUL where pre-service inspections will be performed for about a week before the aircraft starts pax services.

He said if anybody takes pictures he wants some copies!!!

Hope this helps.

I have been watching the production list and today from FlightAware a 200ER took what appeared to be it's first flight as BOE11.
If the list sequence is followed then there will be two -300ER's ( 1 ea SIN and EK) then Air Canada's. So the actual first flight is probably about 2-weeks away.

Wow I can not wait to see pictures of the plane in the air. Two questions though, when does AC's 2nd 777 arrive and how much flying does this bird do in Seattle before being ready to be delivered.

It is sixth on the line after the first , so that will put it about a month later. I would say about 6 to 8 hours. BOE11 today was in the air 1hr 44mins.

Well guys, I ran into the guy in charge of the program a couple hours after my post. He says March 31st is as "firm" as they get. This date I suppose due to the dynamics of manufacturing has floated around quite a bit. The date was as early as March 3rd, then March 14, March 29 and now the 31st. They were in the airplane last week, the cockpit is almost done and the cabin still has aways to go.

March 31st, 0700, Direct YUL.

I didn't mean this to be a know-it-all thing and if you guys know better so be it. There were some people that wanted to know when the aircraft was to take off for it's home and I tried to find out for ya. I'll be seeing him again in the coming weeks and I'll ask him if anything changes.

Cheers

Sixty.

seems to be some confusion here...you are talking about the first flight after delivery, I think others thought you meant first flight for the airframe.

Click Happy. No, I meant the delivery flight. You're right, I would suppose it would fly at least a couple of times prior to release.

In fact you'd likely know better than I. I'm not sure if the flight back to the buyer is actually called the delivery flight, or is the delivery flight the one where they take off, go off shore and complete all the sales paperwork.

But as you said, that info I was talking about is the one where AC actually flies the bird to it's new home. It will be an exciting time for sure.

RobK. Got a quick question. This Boeing11, it's a -200LR? Does that mean ACs first LR is actually a plane boeing has been flying around already? I thought the only AC 777 is the -300ER.

BTW, does anyone know if AC 856 on April 4, flying YYZ-LHR is still the 773ER? It said so on AC's website a couple of months ago. I'm curious now that the delivery flight has been pushed back.

YYZFlyer:

April 4 might be a little close for 856 777 service. Once the a/c gets to YUL it will undergo acceptance checks and a "once over" by maintenance. For the EMJs it was five days, this might be a little longer of course. Either way it will be close!! Hope you're lucky.

RobK.

The only reason I would think that Boeing11 was an airplane flying already (for test or show purposes) is that the first 3 777s that AC are to receive are -300s. If the first airplane AC is getting is C-FITL, a -300, which is delivered March 31st, why would a -200LR being flying already unless boeing has had it in the air flying around already for show or test purposes.

In your earlier post you said it was a -200LR which led me to think AC was getting a "demo" airplane sort of like PIA.

I doubt ACs first AC, C-FITL has flown yet since it's cockpit wasn't finished as of last week.

SixtySeven, I think you have confused two similar acronyms. A/C is short for aircraft. AC is the designator for Air Canada. The slash (/) makes all the difference.

Thanks for coming to the rescue 3point coz I had no idea what 67 was on about! I now understand why though. It doesn't actually say A/C, it says AIC which is the official code for Air India. BOE011 is VT-ALA and nothing to do with Air Canada.

Although will probably change a dozen times between now and then, as it stands in RES III.

Inaugural flight is AC856 YYZ/LHR - 07Apr rotates as follows:

AC869 LHR/YYZ - 08Apr
AC412 YYZ/YUL - 08Apr
AC417 YUL/YYZ - 08Apr

While 856 is the "official" inaugural 777 flight, aircraft may very well do some Rapidair dry runs subject to availability and pre-service modifications being completed.

Slightly off topic, but why is AC so late in taking delivery of their 777's? Was the bankruptcy preventing them from ordering at the same time everyone else was?

AC wasn't really behind in ordering the 777 in that they were already flying it's chief competitor, the 340. AC wanted the 777 originally but airbus came in with an 11th hour deal chopping the price of their airplanes.

When AC got the 340-500 they were not happy with it's performance, or it's economics. Canada's CCAA (bankruptcy) plan allowed AC to renegotiate leases. Some of these included shortening commitments to the people they were leasing the heavy Airbus' from.

At the time Boeing was certainly willing to do business and regain business from a once loyal customer. Realize that the rest of the North Am airline market was tanked and AC if anything re-wrote the book on the "new reality" of running a legacy airline.

In the end the numbers for the 777 were fantastic and through their emergence from CCAA they were able to "trade" their 340's for an airplane with better numbers all around.

Say what you want about Milton, he's a visionary.

Now if he only treated his employees like his shareholders this airline might have a future.

Sorry, but you are misinformed. The plane isn't scheduled to leave Seattle until Saturday, the 31st. The official delivery is scheduled for the 30th, but the flyaway is the 31st.

And, the possibility that this will be delayed is very strong at this point.

I am quite sure Royal is very respected and I am not trying to one up him at all. They get the airplane Friday and the 31st is indeed when it shows up in YUL. I got my days mixed up perhaps its the thin air in South Am!!

I just thought that Friday will be a most special day for both Boeing and AC. As you say time will tell.

I could care less who turns out to be right, I just hope the day comes off as planned. For everyone involved.

You're ultimately right by saying that we only hope for the day coming off well as planned.. but by throwing around titles of people you're 'talking to' that have a direct impact and would have high-level knowledge of delivery dates, you're messing up a lot of avid aviation buffs (which you likely are one of them), in the meantime..

I'd trust someone who's closer to Boeing(both georaphically, and historically) , and someone who has been very reliable source in the past for information, than someone on the internet who's based in South America..

No offence intended, but you have to be very careful what you say and what information you share.

No matter how much anyone wants to disagree, the kind of information you have been sharing is either make-it or break-it reputation wise on a website such as this.

I'm going by AC's schedule. Until their schedule changes, or they announce changes, I'm sticking to what Royal has been offering us.
