Status At LAX (25L/7R And Expansion Plan)

Sun Mar 11, 2007 8:48 am

I have been wondering about what is happening at LAX. It is my home airport and it has been 2 months since i have flown out of it. I was wondering about the construction on runway 25L/7R. Is it done and if not when is it planned to be finished? Also, what are the plans for expanding LAX and how are they progressing? Thanks for the info.

Everything is not out of service. The RVR Minimums are not in use on 25R/7L, thats all. The runway is open and ILS approahes can be done to the runway, the pilots cannot use the RVR on the approach plates thats all. All the other NOTMAS are about 25L//7R, which will be wider by the way than 25R/7L (flew over it yesterday).

The ILS and ALS for 25R/7L gets switched on on the 23rd. The runway scheduled to open the 25th & the RVR minimus restored then as well. I believe hope ots 2300Z; that means the first landing will be in daylight!!!
What is it? It's A 747-400, but that's not important right now.

Actually, I should have deleted that one from the list, and LAX 02/031 LAX 25R RVRM OTS means that the mid-point RVR on 25R is OTS...

Forgive me, but I am not totally sure what all that means (am I the only one?). But does that mean that the northern runways are getting most of the traffic? Could someone please explain all this to me?  Confused

I can say with certainty from being there week in and out that the northern side is significantly busier than the southern side. Anyone want to refute my moint?  box

The actual 25L/07R work finished several weeks early during January, at which time the FAA operated several flights checks. The remainder of the time has been taken up with installation and certification of lighting and navaids, along with finishing up runway exit taxiways.

In the mean time land grading work has already started on the new center taxiway to be located between the runways.

LAX's 07R/25L is the southernmost of LAX's 4 runways, and it's been closed (along with associated navigational aids) for a few months for construction. They're basically rebuilding the runway, but 55-60 feet (can recall which) further south of its current location.

There has been some increase in traffic on the north, but that's not really been that much of a problem when the weather is good. Foggy days were another matter. Two more weeks and it's open...

The reason I ask is because on Thursday I will be in L.A. for the day before I catch my flight to LHR. I am staying at the Radisson LAX and and going to be spotting all day on Sepulveda on 3/15 and the morn. of 3/16.
