British Airways #103 (almost) Always Late Into YYC

Sun Mar 11, 2007 4:45 pm

Hi,

It seems that BA's flight 103 from LHR is almost always late into YYC, by at leat 20 - 30 minutes. Why don't they just change the arrival time? I know... you may say "so what if it arrives early?". Well, it seems that's not really the case nowadays  Smile

Anyway... what do you guys think? Should they change the arrival time?

I've also included a pic I managed to snap today as it was landing on runway 16 and it arrived at 17:18. So almost 25 minutes late.

Cheers,

Vio

well I do not think it is really late... but yes if they can not mach the flight time that is on the flightschedule, they should just change the flight time by adding 30 minutes.

BTW, how is the flight doing?

Could it have to do with a period of particularly strong winds over the pond? Are other flights from Europe also late?

I remember last year every single flight from Europe to YUL/YYZ was delayed 20-30 minutes due to a weather system creating nasty headwinds which couldn't be avoided.

Or it could be that BA is being sloppy  Wink

There might be some reason for it on the regulation side. Where by changing the time hurts them alot, and being late hurts them very little.

Edit: It could also be that they planned the route times according to a 744's cruise speed, and not a 777's

Just looked at BA103/10Mar
The timetable flying time is 8hrs 30mins
The flight plan time was 8hrs 34mins
The actual flying time was 8hrs 40mins
The flight was late off the gate in LHR by 14mins
and on blocks 25mins late.
All seems reasonable to me.

Don't forget the cluster*&%$# of an airport it's departing from.....

I think the bigger problem with this flight is the ridiculously larger number of pax arriving without their baggage. Sometimes it doesn't arrive for days. In desperation they flag down any airline staff they can find, I've been flagged down several times and I work for AC. They tell me they can't find ANY BA staff anywhere and they can't get any info from anybody. Hardly great service from a so-called "world class" airline.

This is the exact reason I stopped flying BA. Without any exaggeration, they 'lost' my bags 7 out of 10 times at LHR in a span of 5 years. One time I didn't get my luggage for 5 days, right on time for me to head back. Numerous letters to them have gone un-answered.  banghead

Same situation at Vancouver International, always late on arrival and departure by HOURS. Most likely this is the end result of BA's late arriving flights into Heathrow carrying inbound connecting pax for Calgary and Vancouver. The worst of it is in the winter when BA has only one daily to YVR so I guess they have no choice but to wait for late connecting pax. In the summer when BA runs a second daily to YVR, its first flight seems to leave on time while the second one is often delayed in order to pick up late connecting pax at LHR.

I am just speculating that ... rather than delaying furthermore an already late flight out of LHR, BA would prefer to load all late-connecting pax luggage onto the next day flight.

High-fare levels at BA, are still giving out a strong "hint" that one is just about to book and fly a "world class" airline.
