How Could I Get A Letter To Neeleman?

Mon Mar 12, 2007 12:45 pm

I want to send a letter to Neeleman about an idea around their work from home reservations agents. It's not a complaint but rather just an idea. Any idea how I could get a letter to Neeleman or at least somewhere close to him where it would actually get some attention?

Typically you would write to the executive at the (real, not email) address of their corporate headquarters, which you could probably find on JetBlue's website or in an annual report to stockholders or the like.

That being said most companies have rather strict policies about the acceptance of unsoloicited ideas for a variety of reasons (mostly concerns about being sued and other legal issues), so don't be heartbroken if you get a letter from their legal department telling you that the letter was burned before anyone could be contaminated by its ideas, and please don't ever think about suggesting anything to anyone again (It happened to a 4th grader not too long ago, IIRC)

What Lincoln said is very true. For legal reasons companies do not accept unsolicied ideas.

Send your idea...it's not like it's patented or anything and there's no way of knowing whether somebody at B6 has already thought of it. I think you'll get a letter of thanks and that's about it. If your idea is good and nobody has thought of it before, it no doubt will be tossed around, tweaked, modified, etc. so as to make it an idea unique to B6.

Not only should you send it, I'd take the extra 4 dollars and send it in a Priority Mail envelope -- I always thought that got more attention.

Well it is nothing earth shattering but rather just an analysis of why all their reservations agents should not reside in Salt Lake City. Information learned in college classes, through some of my work in consulting, etc.

That is where the Res Center computer base is......they just let them work out of their homes. Southwest is at OKC

Plus, think about it.... Salt Lake City, David Neeleman, home of the Mormon Church....?? See the connection..?

There are many many international companies that have call centers here in Utah with out LDS CEO's. A high rate of bilingualisim in a large array of languages, clear easy to understand UT accents, and lower than the national average pay are more likely reasons why B6 has it's phone rez here.

Another B6  idea ... the ability for customers to use their credit history for purchasing B6 merchandise from their online store as opposed to using it for a future flight. It wasn't my idea actually as it was a friend of mine's.

I have asked airlines the question before of why they do not do that, or allow customers to purchase miles with their credit and I was told that it is because of accounting reasons. I have a small accounting background so what they said does make sense. When you are an airline and you sell something like merchandise it goes into the category of "other revenue" and not the standard revenue classification. This is standard for all businesses in that whatever you are in business to do (provide flights) is what your normal revenue account would hold, other than that everything whould need to go in "other revenue". While yes certainly that can trickle down into your profit and help your bottom line, it does not assist in hitting the revenue number that the street is looking for, it also does not go into "operating income profit/loss". Therefore, they would rather you use your credit for something like that.

SECOND, there is a huge number of those credits that go unused and end up straight profit anyway. They don't want to give us more chances to actually use that revenue.

It won't work. Because when you upgrade your miles, the planes is still going with or without you. The cost is already been paid for by the other traveling passengers. When you cash in points for merchendise the cost is not covered. How is that cost covered...?

I once knew an FA, years ago, that was recruited when she lived in SLC. She spoke 3 languages and said there was a high rate . Intersting. Why is that?

I sent a letter with an idea for commemorating Aloha's 60th Anniversary to Aloha's CEO, and within 2 days I got an email from their #2 man saying how much they loved it, blah blah blah. Made me feel pretty good.

Give it a shot. The worst that could happen is nothing happens.

They were talking about using cash credits not miles. B6 doesn't give cash refunds they only give credits for future travel.

Young LDS people are encouraged to serve 1.5-2 year missions often to foreign countries and they recieve intensive language training. They return fluent.

Not for nothing, but don't you think JetBlue has considered that possibility?! I mean, there maybe lots of reasons why their Res. Center is in Utah - maybe it is because they preferred it over India?

It used to be easy to get a letter straight to Neeleman, and even a personal letter back from him. I got a signed picture and christmas card from him in 2001. Nowadays, the secretarys get it, and he probably will never see it.
