Rates To JAX

Wed Mar 14, 2007 6:56 am

OK, I am booked to return to JAX (for a short weekend) for the last weekend in April. I have been scoping out the rates on various airlines all week long and looking at all of my promo e-mails (CO, DL, B6, etc.) and I must say that I have done pretty well for myself:

JFK-JAX via ATL ... 160 R/T

CO had pretty much a similar rate to DL, while B6 was almost 500 R/T. Is this normal?

The best part of my reservation is... I am skedded to fly on a T7 to ATL and a 757 to JAX and back on a 757 and a 737-8. Please let there be no plane changes!

And we wonder why airlines are hurting financially.....

Damn the internet and cheap flyers!!  Sad
Airliners.net has many forums. It has spell check and search functions. Use them before posting!

Why?

Being that I am a "cheap flyer", I have been an active participant in keeping AF, B6, DL, CO, & NW in business for many years and will continue to do so along with many other travelers both leisure and business, I am sure.

Bingo. There are some people on here under the impression that the premium flyers are the only ones the airlines make any money on, which is completely untrue.

On my trip to north Florida last spring, I managed to snag SJC-JAX for $198 r/t on CO. In fact that fare was the reason I went -- the impetus for the trip. I'd been idly trip-searching and when that dirt-cheap fare came up, I just..booked it.

Who says low fares don't attract travelers?  Smile

I'm probably a good comparison for this one. Over the past few years I've done alot of JAX-BOS flights. I would say that 80 pecent of the time I've paid $250 or less mostly on DL or US. Only once did I find B6 the least expensive. I would guess that the LCCs tend to have their fares jump quickly here due to the limited number of flights where DL and US which have a decent amount of lift to ATL and CLT respectively. CO is usually a little more expensive but can sometimes match the others. Too bad it isn't the old schedule as DL used to regularly fly 763s down here from ATL.

I could have mistaken the aircraft, however, I thought I saw a 763 at JAX two weeks ago, however, it must have been a 757 heading back to ATL. Besides, I only caught a tail glimpse of it. A dream flight would be JFK-JAX doing both 763s and T7s non-stop.

B6 flies non-stop BOS-JAX?

That's pretty good. That was roughly the amount I paid with CO non-stop from EWR. Even though I have a $93 credit with jetBlue, my airfare for the weekend will be only shot down to 398 something dollars. I could get a good deal with B6 if I flew weekdays, however, I am only available to go down to JAX on weekends until I get more vacation time.

No, you were probably correct. Delta still currently flies 2 763's to ATL daily. Some say that it will go away later in the spring, but I seem to disagree with those statements. Time will tell, but I just don't really see it. It has happened before when I worked there and wouldn't be newsbreaking, but DL always brought the 763's back in because of the volume of DL traffic out of JAX.

No only OH does. I had to go through JFK on my one B6 trip. B6 flies either 3 or 4 daily roundtrips JFK-JAX all on the 320.

Depending on where you want to go, JAX is either very cheap or very pricey. I was booking a one-way ticket home over Spring Break and punched in JAX. JAX-ATL-RDU/CLT on DL was $79. JAX-ATL-GSO was around $240 or $250, though that probably had more to do with GSO.

Unfortunately, those three are all E190's now.

Personally I love JAX as an airport. It is small and easy to get through, not to mention DL flies some big metal there. I live in central Florida, and I drive up to JAX every once in a while to catch a flight b/c I have some family there. I hope DL doesn't pull the 767 off JAX.
