LAX-SIN non stop on US Airways. Hmmm. Too bad Delta didn't get bought out after all. Well, when it comes to service, we in Atlanta can still dream. Ain't gonna happen, but we can still dream.

SIA has such great service. It's going to be a huge letdown for their passengers getting on an airline as downmarket as US. US, home of the advertising on the tray tables in first. You gotta wonder what SIA is thinking.

Well SIA chose US instead of UA on 4 of those 5 routes. UA operates SFO/LAX to LAS/PHX. However United doesn't have first class. They operate either United Express or Ted on those routes. Therefore, US actually provides a superior service, and therefore is better at connecting SQ passengers to their premium long haul flights.

Oh there is more too it as well if you read the SQ press release (excerpt follows):

From the Singapore hub, US Airways’ customers can also easily connect onto
codeshare flights operated by Singapore Airlines to popular destinations in the
Asia Pacific (Perth, Ho Chi Minh City, Bali, Jakarta and Banda Seri Begawan).
US Airways will also codeshare on Singapore Airlines services to European
gateways of Amsterdam, Zurich and Manchester.

 banghead

So, you can now circle the world on US Airways coded flights in theory (example: PHL>MAN>SIN>LAX>PHL)

I agree, what on EARTH is SQ thinking by getting in to bed with US Airways?! 5 star airline to a 3 star airline, best service to worst service...the star of star alliance (in my opinion) to the shame.

And how many americans can find Bandar Seri Begawan on the map????  Wink

Woohoo!!! So that means if you want to go STAR all the way you can either do the codeshare DJ flight to United in Sydney or you can go on SQ from Perth to Singapore and then onto LAX. Hhhmm which would you prefer? Crapsville DJ for 3 hours to Sydney followed by average UAL for 12.5 hours to LAX or Singapore Airlines all the way & an hour or so on US?? If I was flying from Perth to the US I know which one I'd take!!!

Watching everyone put US Airways down is understandable, but do you really thnk they are any worse than all of our other "fine" U.S. carriers? I just connected from a biz class KAL Jumbo onto a WN 737 flight. I had a reality check there every bit as much. It could be worse...You could be connecting onto Delta  Smile

They're still clinging to the dated notion that Delta is somehow a classier carrier, while everyone knows that they're "just another American major."

SQ and UA also detest each other (I hear this is a longstanding rivalry, but it has become more heated since SQ applied to compete on one of UA's crown jewel routes, SYD-LAX).

I'm not sure that US is any worse than some of its *A peers. When is the last time you flew NZ on a short-to-medium length flight? OZ J (on their 744s) from ICN to JFK? And for that matter, many of the services on United itself?

US Airways isn't the best, but it's not a torture chamber, and all of the codeshare flights are pretty short.

SIA is better than any airline out there so I guess that could be stated for anyone....they are all in the same alliance so I'm sure they thought more of the marketing aspect, rather than the service aspect. Besides most of those flights are just over an hour...how much service does one expect?

As an outsider who has no allegiences to any American carrier, let me say that I have had some of my best domestic flights on your well hated US Airways. The only... and I repeat only airline that has pretty decent service is Continental. End of Story. Don't come to the table with Delta, AA, United, Northwest as they are all pretty crappy. So SIA might as well go with US. Whats more the people at SIA must have investigated US and were impressed enough, before agreeing to do a codeshare with them.

P.S. I fly AA cause they fly where I need to fly, but for no other reason.

They have been for a while, mostly in response to B6 service between the two. It is an express route flown by regional jet. They were able to do it after the merger since HP previously served JFK.

Hahaha, well, I can actually find it on the map, because I used to live in the region. Don't get me wrong, I love my country, and fellow citizens, but when you see statistics that a large percentage of americans can't find Iraq on a map, you think they would have any idea where Bandar Seri Begawan is??? People still think Singapore is part of China! My point: we are not educating our kids enough on global issues, and its sad how geographically inept and ignorant our society in the US has become (case in point: Borat, that move played on americans ignorance mostly). and im actually well out of college now.  Wink

And SQ did try to serve LAS with a non-stop from HKG but that flopped in almost royal fashion and was very short lived.

I agree with you that our education system if sorely lacking... However, I'm not sure if Borat is necessarily the best measuring stick (that's like discussing the British educational deficiencies in terms of Steve-O and the Jackass movie series).

LAS was precodeshare though... no connex.

Kudos to the esteemed Mr. Parker and the US Mgt. for putting this together. Even if those who dis the customer service at US are correct (I can't remember ever flying them, myself), this will give the airline an opportunity to prove them wrong. Hopefully they will do just that.

Further, I think this shows the confidence that others in the industry have in Parker's leadership. Certainly SQ (with its stellar reputation for good service) is a big catch for US and I'm sure that they put this arrangement under heavy scrutiny before moving forward with this announcement...

With regard to SQ FFP Krisflyer members flying on SQ/US code share on an SQ ticket, would they earn the same miles as a regular SQ ticket (example: Y class) ? Would those miles be equivalent to travelling SQ/UA on a SQ ticket ?

What would happen to the earned miles figure if it was the reverse (purchase US airways ticket, with a US/SQ code share segment ?). Are the two sets of miles equivalent, or is there a ratio difference ?

I ask this since on some flights (SIN/LHR/IAD) flights with some sectors being SQ/VS code share, you don't earn miles on the VS flight segment !!
