LY's Summer Schedule

Thu Mar 15, 2007 6:50 pm

This summer it looks like LY will have:

NYC
5 daily flights to JFK/EWR

LY027 at 00:05 to EWR
LY003 at 00:30 to JFK or alternatively LY031 mornings or early afternoon (8:00, 11:00, 14:20) to JFK
LY001 at 1AM to JFK
LY007 at 10:40 Am to JFK
LY011 in the late afternoon (16:00, 16:35, 17:00, 20:30 ) to JFK

YYZ
4 weekly
LY103

LAX
4 weekly nonstop
LY005 at 00:40 Tues, thursday and Sun
LY105 in the mornings (07:30/10:00) on Mondays

MIA
3 weekly
LY101 Sun, Tue, thursday on 767
(I am surprised there is more traffic to YYZ than there is to MIA)
I would have expected MIA to be 4-5 weekly in the summer or atleast have a 777 do one or two of the flights. Maybe it will change once the new schedule has the new 777 in them.

BKK

30JUN 01SEP .2.45.7 0610 (TLV) 0945 (GVA) LY 345 738/73G 0 EL AL

Those are the main changes.
As i mentioned above, i wonder what last minute changes they might implement with the addition of the two new 777 in JULY and AUGUST.

Noticed there are no fligths to Chicago, as discussed before on this forum.

The a/c type will change anyway. We can be sure of the a/c type maybe 3 weeks before a flight. So, summer is tooo far away

Did I see that LY will upgrade KBP service to 757, or are they doing that already?

KBP get mix 738/757, same as DME.
It actually looks like this summer KBP will only be 738:

24JUN 12AUG ....5.. 0625 (TLV) 0940 (KBP) LY 651 738 0 EL AL
24JUN 12AUG 1234..7 1855 (TLV) 2210 (KBP) LY 651 738 0 EL AL
30JUN 31AUG .....6. 2125 (TLV) 0040 (KBP) LY 657 738 0 EL AL

In the summer DME will only be 757 with two daily flights.

24JUN 01SEP .....6. 2015 (TLV) 0110 (DME) LY 617 757 0 EL AL
15JUL 01SEP 12345.7 0550 (TLV) 1045 (DME) LY 611 757 0 EL AL

No surprises here with all the service to JFK and Europe. I'm glad to see more service to Asia. Nonstop to LAX is brave for El Al as many LAX flights stop in Toronto.

LAX - TLV went nonstop last summer. They discontinued TLV - YYZ - LAX after the summer months. They later changed it to TLV - YYZ - ORD, which was recently haxed from the end of March I believe.. Now there will no longer be a continuiation for YYZ in N. America, the a/c will return to TLV.
TLV - YYZ - TLV

Is YYZ a viable route for El Al? LY flies to YYZ four times a week while AC offers a daily flight in the summer. Although LY is a strong competitor on routes to New York and Europe, it seems a weak competitor on the YYZ route.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a flight leaving TLV at 20:30 land at JFK at around 1am?
Also, once they are flying into EWR, is it really worth the staff costs to have only one daily flight?

30JUN 01SEP .2.45.7 0610 (TLV) 0945 (GVA) LY 345 738/73G 0 EL AL

4 flights a week to GVA this summer??

We had 3 flights a week for many decades (Sun-Tue-Thu), and now only 2 (Sun-Thu), but why would there be 4 flights all of a sudden?

During the ski season, larger planes are sent on weekend flights, and there are additional flights because GVA is very close to many ski resorts in the Swiss and French Alps; this season there were 2 additional flghts weekly (one arriving in GVA on Friday morning, leaving on Saturday night with a 757, and another on Sunday, on 767 or larger), plus there is a "Sun d'Or" flight operated on Saturdays with large airplanes (777s and 744s, in "full" LY livery btw).
I bitterly miss the livery that should never have been changed (repetition...)

Given the extortionist landing fees at Toronto-Pearson, LY has frequently been quoted as threating to bail out of YYZ.

Bottom line, they must still be making money on the route. Service is however down from previous years. Was it last year that they peaked at 8 flights per week??

Hopefully, YYZ won't become another destination that LY abandons. AC is a very tough competitor on this route. YYZ is primarily an O&D route for LY whereas AC can connect passengers between Israel, the USA, and Latin America through its YYZ hub.

LY has cut four routes, but it is increasing flights to other destinations. There had been some speculation that LY would add new destinations in the Americas and the Far East. Much of this speculation focused on business centers in the Far East, such as ICN, NRT, or KIX. A few months ago, the Jerusalem Post reported that LY was considering South American destinations, presumably EZE or GIG. However, it now seems doubtful that LY will start flying to any new destinations this year.

I have to state that LY never really got loads out of ORD because of the stop in YYZ, plus the fares. I do hope they return to ORD someday. Does anyone have any info on that code-share to ORD they said they were working on?

oops there are 25 flights per week

I forgot to summarize:
LY 026 departs EWR at 23:50 (ET), operting on Saturdays only with a 777.

I errored in saying LY 028 operates exclusively with 744s.
It opertates fives times weekly at 14:30 (ET) from EWR with four 744s and a 777 on Sunday.

I errored in saying LY 032 operated three times a week. It indeed opertes four times weekly with one addiitonal departure from JFK at 18:15 (ET) with a 763. Note one of the other departures is with a 772. So LY 032 is operated by a combination of 2 763s, 1 777 and one 744.

Eastbound there are a total for 4 flights operated by the 763, 7 with the 777 and 14 with the 744.

Now going the other way (westbound from TLV).

I have to state that LY never really got loads out of ORD because of the stop in YYZ, plus the fares. I do hope they return to ORD someday. Does anyone have any info on that code-share to ORD they said they were working on?

For more than a decade Miami and Los Angeles flights made intermediate stops too, and did great despite that.

Thats pretty much what I said, the only day there are 4 flights is tuesday. I am obviously not counting friday and saturday.

I am sure those 763 will turn into 777 as soon as the 2 new 777 join the fleet. Atleast the first one is due to join in July.

You forgot ....

Given the extortionist landing fees at Toronto-Pearson, LY has frequently been quoted as threating to bail out of YYZ.

Bottom line, they must still be making money on the route. Service is however down from previous years. Was it last year that they peaked at 8 flights per week??

Quoting IAD380 (Reply 17):
Hopefully, YYZ won't become another destination that LY abandons. AC is a very tough competitor on this route. YYZ is primarily an O&D route for LY whereas AC can connect passengers between Israel, the USA, and Latin America through its YYZ hub.

I don't feel sorry for airlines that have to deal with this monstrosity of Fees at YYZ where there are other options.

I just noticed that LY has put an additional B763 (4X-EAR) into service. Is this one aimed to replace one of the B762's or just to increase the fleet?

4 flights a week to GVA this summer??

We had 3 flights a week for many decades (Sun-Tue-Thu), and now only 2 (Sun-Thu), but why would there be 4 flights all of a sudden? (...)

Any confirmation?

That 763 joined the fleet a while back, I thnk in October or November. Its to increase the fleet.

I think LY will use this approach with the 787's. I heard and read that one of the reasons LY didnot commit to the options it had was because it wanted the aircrafts sooner. I think they are now looking at leasing them and in this wau getting them earlier.
I know a few leasing companies ordered the a/c, when and which are still available?

(maybe i should start a new post)

Astonishing. The third weekly flight was recently abandoned and now the number of flights is going to double all of a sudden.

Btw, why are all flights to GVA taking off so early? Among 4 flights a week, it would be great to have a later departure, too....

What an odd time for a flight! I'm actually supposed to be flying LY 12 in August and when I saw that it was leaving at 02:45 I was quite perplexed!

I think the 02:45 departure time from JFK is because LY is trying to increase its fleet utilization given its 6-day workweek contraints. [note: the incoming flight arrives at 00:05, leaving a 2h 40m turn time.]
