Fri Mar 16, 2007 4:22 am

The press release is dated 12 Mar 07, but I don't remember if we discussed it here; search didn't disclose anything. Is this old news?

LAFCO Aviation Lease and Finance Company Selects GEnx Engine for its Boeing 787 Fleet
March 12, 2007 -- KUWAIT CITY, KUWAIT -- ALAFCO Aviation Lease and Finance Company (KSCC) has chosen the GEnx engine to power its 12 Boeing 787 Dreamliner with purchase rights to buy an additional six aircraft. The firm engine order is valued at more than $530 million (USD).

"ALAFCO is pleased to announce the selection of the GEnx engine to power its new ordered B787-8 aircraft," said Mr. Ahmad A. Alzabin, ALAFCO chairman. "We at ALAFCO are very excited about this new engine and are confident that the GEnx will be another successful aircraft engine from the General Electric Company. The airlines that will lease aircraft from ALAFCO will benefit from the fuel savings and high reliability of this powerplant. GE is a reputable engine manufacturer that provides excellent product support which will make our B787 aircraft more desirable to airlines."

It looks like GE is pulling further ahead. The last RR order that wasn't from an existing 787 customer was by Monarch Airlines, who made their order last August. Good for GE!

I'll bet that, with lease companies anyways, one of the key selling points of the 787 was the engine interchangability...I'm sure a few lease companies will end up buying a couple of shipset's worth of the "other" guys engines  Wink

For those few that don't know, and are interested in the "box score", here's a summary of 787 sales, including engines, to date.

That list is not quite up to speed, AM has also selected GE for their seven-eighties.

GEnx is definitely pulling away from RR on the 787, hopefully RR will get some orders soon. I bet SQ will go RR.
