Official ORD A380 Sign In Sheet

Fri Mar 16, 2007 2:54 pm

I know we have the other thread going, but we have a bunch of "I'm comings" mixed in what is now over 100 posts, so....just sign in here if you are planning on coming to make things simple.

One of the last posts in the other thread mentioned meeting at the Chili's at Touhy and Mannheim at 10:00 am. I think this a great spot to meet at first for the simple fact that it's easy to get to. For those of you flying in, driving in, taking cabs from O'hare, etc. it provides a big intersection for easy navigation. From there we can all decide on a spot, etc. etc.

Since I have not had the pleasure of meeting any of you in person, do we all want to meet say by the front door of the Chili's, otherwise we'll be all asking restaurant patrons/car parkers, are you with Airliners.net? or Here for the A380?

This is just adding on to a couple of previous suggestions, we all seem excited, or at least interested, it would be a shame for something not to materialize.

Looking forward to seeing all of you on the 20th.

I'll be in town, I'm quite familiar with the area, plan to rent a car, and I would be interested in meeting fellow A.netters gathering for this event...particularly anyone who knows of good "spots" which won't be subject to interference from law enforcement officers.

I am in!

I may be coming from the Blue Line / Rosemont stop and cabbing it from there. I am assuming if I do that, I can hitch a ride to the chosen spotting place!

I heard someone is bringing a scanner. How long before the beast lands will we know what runway it is landing on?

that's the same thing I think I'm going to do. I am arriving arround 0730 and going to make a stop at the avaition store by the hilton, then take the train. For those asking, I believe the beast is due to arrive at 1300. More than likely it will be a 14R arrival. see you all there on Tuesday.!!!

Glad to see we have some for sure responses. Since there don't seem to be any objections, we will all meet at the Chili's at 10:00 by the front door. If it is 1:00pm arrival I'm sure we will be willing to wait for those of you arriving by plane. You probably won't need extra time since ORD is the most on-time airport in the world. (Sarcasm) Please pass the word on to as many a-netters as possible.

Thanks all,

Dan

I'm going to be there, flying in, however I do not have the $$ to rent a car, as I'm saving for my vacation to AMS next month. I should be arriving around 10:30ish depending on if there is a GDP. My flight leaving ORD is booked solid, so as a non-rev, I might be leaving earlier than I'd like. If worse comes to worse I might take a WN flt out of MDW. Is the subway an easy way to get from ORD-MDW? Can't wait to see this bird!

Very easy, Blue Line subway to Orange Line elevated, free inter-line transfer at the Clark-Lake station in the "Loop." Due to "reduced speed" zones throughout the rapid transit system these days, I'd allow a minimum of 1 1/2 - 2 hours to make the trip. If you're more adventurous, you can also take the Blue Line from O'Hare to the Jefferson Park Station and take an express bus to MDW, however I'm not sure as to the frequency of the bus service. We don't really have anything set in stone besides the meet at Chili's witch I and maybe some others cant make. Thats why we should get a spotting location set before we all meet in the morning.

At this point I'd say my chances are 50/50, I've got a really busy week ahead of me. If I do make it, there will likely be another a.netter with me (SyncMaster).

Does anyone have any FIRM data on this A380 flight? Will we be able to track it online? I will bring my laptop and EV/DO card, so we can track it live from our spotting location... I also have scanners and such.

Sounds like there will be a nice crowd! Some of us are SIDA badged, so if we are all together as a group I doubt the police will mess with us much!

ChicagoOhare, Sangas, AADC10137, N723GW, United787, Lfutia, Ebs757 (mentioned may be late ???), 777uafan, Kjet12, Gift4tbone, B777fan, Mycrj17 (sounded like you are) (i am fully assuming this IS for sure happening)

12 responses

The following people have responded as being at ORD itself to watch the big mama jamma come in:

Flyinryan99, FlyCMH, AA 777-200

The following people are maybes:

AndrewUber, OrdTerminal 1

As for spotting locations, we have discussed: 1. abandoned lot off of Montrose (see other thread), 2. Southwest cargo area (United, Fedex, UPS etc.), 3. I-294 Oasis 4. Target parking lot 5. Various hotels, etc.

The plan is to meet at Chili's by the front door at 10:00>>>In terms of setting a spot, I like the cargo area myself, but some people have concerns with security. I think a lot will depend on how many people actually show up, who may have some pull at the airport etc.... I am up for suggestions

Also if you have changed your mind about coming please post yes or no otherwise I will assume you are all coming

Don't plan on the Target parking lot for viewing. You will only get a good view of traffic on 4L/22R. The big bird can only use 32L/14R from what I've heard( due to it being the only 200' wide runway). I'll be there that day, but I'll be inside the fence!

I have heard from many people in and around ORD that the A380 will be parked at Hardstand 22 or 23 just east of Terminal 5 gate M21. I have also heard that it may come in LH colors. For those with SIDA and airfield access, how close do you think we can get to the aircraft?

See you guys on Tuesday!
Just watching the birds go by is good enough for me.

Quoting Ebs757 (Reply 38):

They are not expensive, if you sign a contract. You can get a free one through sprint with a 2yr contract, or a $50 through cingular. Data packages usually range anywhere from $50 to $80 a month. If you don't want to sign a contract cards are usually over $100 and the data packages are usually the same rate. Sometimes you can get a rate discount if sign with a provider who is also your cell carrier.

Really looking forward to this. Does anyone have the abilty to surf the net using a cell phone connection to yuor laptop. If so we might be able to use Google Earth to track the inciming flight. You can download flight tracking into ORD through fboweb.com. This might help us plan where to spot from.
