Kenya Airways Update - Singapore Air To Nairobi

Mon Mar 19, 2007 7:58 am

In December, I had written a note that Kenya Airways was fast headed in the wrong direction. A new website reports that management apparently sees the same thing and is trying to fix things:

Kenya Airways strains to meet ambitious growth

What's Happening To KQ? (by 787KQ Dec 21 2006 in Civil Aviation)

I also see a report that Singapore Airlines is to start service to Nairobi in April 2007, something that I missed. If true, I am surprised, but I would expect Singapore to take most of the premium traffic headed that way, given its superior product and service.

If this is happening it would've announced on 15MAR07 when the airline officially announced its summer schedule

Doesn't seem to be any announcements of any sort from SIA. No news whatsoever here in the Singapore press and media. I'm now just beginning to suspect the reliability of the news articles....

Fantastic news! Getting to NBO is so difficult at the moment from Australia.

A link SIN-NBO would be a huge improvement from going through the JNB / DXB hubs. 40 years ago the way from Australia to NBO was through MRU. Now that was direct (pity one also had to fly via CCK (smile).

No way SQ is flying to NBO. If they are, it'll be BIG surprise to me and a whole lot other people.

There's barely any premium demamnd to NBO.

Right on, that'd be my guess too.
If you're going through hell, keep going

BrightCedares: it was SingaporeBoy that suggested the cargo service, not me. It would be great if the rumour of a direct SIN-NBO passenger service were true, but the responses don't seem to suggest that is true, do they? At present, from MEL the way to NBO remains mostly through JNB, DXB, or MRU. But the real problem is the fares are comparatively expensive.

Kenya is not for the discount tourist looking for a quick bargain for a long weekend. one needs time and money to go on safari/holiday to kenya and other places in africa. i think this is the market airlines for premium passengers

I meant "spot on"...

http://www.brusselsairport.be/en/con...rts/Airports_n/nairobi1?view=Cargo

Will show you that SQ is introducing 2 weekly NBO-BRU 74F flights with the airline (Northern) Summer season.

They indeed seem to be linked with the JNB service on the way JNB-BRU.
