You got it backwards; it was enroute to JFK, returned to Palm Beach: http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...2007/03/18/national/a174803D62.DTL

Not sure what "engine part" it lost.

because it's not a big deal. we have many planes per day turn back in the USA because it's such a huge market. the fact it made the news at all is the part I'm amazed by. they usually only get the press on things if there is a threat of a crash: nose wheel won't retract, stuck turned, gear collapse, stuff like that.

The only reason it was mentioned at all is because it is B6. They are the media focus right now.

Oh please, enough of this already......for 7 years JetBlue was the media-darling of the airline industry, the airline did everything it could to be ""front page"" news. Now, all of a sudden, JetBLue is anti-media because some unkind things were said about JetBlue's screw up last month? Really.

This was a minor incident, no big deal, happens all of the time, and it happened to get picked up by one of the papers....no big deal. It has nothing to do with the flight being operated by JetBlue.

The B6 A320 lost an engine cowling on takeoff. The parts landed on airport property and the aircraft turned back for a safe landing. A spare aircraft was sent up from Ft. Lauderdale and flew the passengers on to JFK.

And that's the only reason it was mentioned in the news (not that people want to bash B6). When a part falls off, it's the "sky is falling" syndrome.

I suppose when those Fedex planes had pieces fall off last year that the news mentioned it because they were obviously piling on Fedex and not because it was news...  sarcastic

Anyone know how much of the cowling departed the airplane? Curious if it is similar to the AirTran wetlease A320 incident a few years back. I recall some pax took pics of that engine while still in the air.
