Is UA Still Operating DEN-MEX?

Mon Mar 19, 2007 11:05 am

I'm curious to know if UA is still operating DEN-MEX on the seasonal basis, and on what aircraft.

Thanks!

Hey Shawn Patrick, I am not sure if their flights to MEX from DEN are with A319s or A320s, but it is one of the two.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

Unfortunately, I can't see it in 2007. Could be my Zero3, but I don't see it.
Can't wait for the Blackberry.

Nope. The flight was rarely half full and was cancelled.

When was it canceled? Did it operate for at least part of the Winter 2006/2007 season? I know it was introduced in the Winter 2005/2006 season and I am pretty sure it completed that season.

Mexicana seems to be doing pretty well on the route...

It operated Jan-Apr 2006 and then Dec 2006 apparently, which was the last time.

They seem to have a load factor in the low 60s so I'm not sure how well it could possibly be doing; I don't think DENMEX is high yield enough to compensate for such a low load factor.

Interesting, any idea on the times it operated? I wonder if it was poorly timed for connections.

I would think that with properly timed and convenient connections, UA could do well on DEN-MEX.

I know that when they announced it, it was targeted for the skiers market to bring Mexican skiers to Colorado's slopes, so perhaps it was poorly timed for connections or just not marketed well enough for connections.

I wonder what keeps them on the route?

I predicted that they would pull out when they left the Star Alliance, but they've stayed...

When I flew out of DEN last summer, MX had brought in a 757. I remember last year the route operated with a mix of A319s and A320s, with 757s operating during some days in the summer, now it is all A320s.

I think it's been all over the place but for the most part it's been a morning departure out of MEX and then an afternoon departure out of DEN.

If I remember correctly the flight didn't get any worse when the Star Alliance connection terminated.

The aircraft was cycled through the beach markets when they operated. Now they're just down to MEX and the occasional ZCL.

I guess it's always been mostly O&D.

This MX 757 I saw had come non-stop from MEX and was flying back non-stop as well. I remember I checked the timetable at a time and I think once or twice a week, the non-stop MEX flight was operated on a 757 with the rest of the days operating on A319s or A320s. This was during the summer of course.

ZCL has always amused me. It's a winter seasonal service that operates twice weekly. I remember reading that Denver supposidly has a large Mexican population from Zacatecas and that's why the service is operated during the Christmas season.
