The Flying Dutchman And KLM.

Mon Mar 19, 2007 1:26 pm

Hi there!
I was wondering why KLM has the Flying Dutchman on it's planes, I know KLM in english means Royal Dutch Airlines, but after doing some research, I found out that The Flying Dutchman was like a legend about "a ghost ship that can never go home, and is doomed to sail the seven seas for ever."
So, is there any connection between this legend and KLM, or KLM just choose The Flying Dutchman as a kind of motto for being The Flying Dutchman and Royal Dutch Airline?
Any help or ideas are appreciated.

Flying dutchman was the name of their FFP before they merged it with AF Frequence + to form the new program called Flying Blue. I don't know if it meant something else. Our Dutch A.netters can probably help you !

Lol, there's this amazing episode where Spongebob costums as the Flying Dutchman lol.

Well IMHO "The Flying Dutchman" was a good name and easy to remember to a product the main Dutch airline could offer. It's all about marketing as The Flying Dutchman seems to be a popular nickname to some Dutch men as well right?

Cheers
