LAX A-380 Images From Today!

Tue Mar 20, 2007 4:57 am

Just Got back from being 300 ft under the belly of the new big guy! It was so cool, It was a quiet approach, smooth landing but the nose was a bit wobbly so many people were there, it was just a moment to never forget. I hope to get my video footage up soon on Flight level 350 since my camera batteries died on approach! Good to have my brother with his camcorder near by. How did everyone else feel when seeing this monster?

Nice! The weather was clear and bright at JFK. I wish Lufthansa had put on temporary Star Alliance or Lufthansa liveries on these jets.

Nice shots. I was at Imperial Hill with some workers so I was on the wrong side of the airport, but the taxi right by us was awesome.

I plan on being there when it leaves..Word has it, that it leaves at 7:30 3/20, is this true?

7:30 is the estimated time of departure, I hope to be at Imperial Hill by 7 p.m. to set up. Sun set is at 7:10 p.m. but they say it will be cloudy and raining tomorrow.

Thanks for taking my picture. In your first photos I'm at the 1:00 position to the policeman on the hill with his arms folded, I'm wearing a black hat.

Landing was great to see, but the United 747-8 landing a few minutes before the 380 took away a little of the wow factor on the size. Still very impressive.
I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end.

Anyone remember as that UA 744 was coming in how everyone was getting excited and building up, and then they saw it wasn't the A380, and they just  relieved .

All the spirit went out of them... for a second before someone else realized that the A380 was coming THEN... Big grin

I completely forgot that it was coming in today... I was driving by on the 405-S and saw the tail - quite a bit taller than those of the 747s next to it!! I just had to go see it so I took a quick detour.

WOW!! I must say it looks MUCH better (And MUCH bigger) in person than in photos. I gathered that it looks a little more narrow in person, but the real suprise is how giant the wings are - those things are massive and have a shape I have never seen before - the plane truly looks like a bird.

I absolutely cannot wait to fly on one of these beasts - something about the design and shape of the A380 from the outside suggests that the cabin is an extreamly hotel-like layout with tons of room to explore during a long flight.

Yup, remember it. A guy next to me (looking at the 744) said "The A380 is not that big", and then "oops". I guess it was the excitement. When I was walking by the KTLA van, I remember one of the KTLA guys telling somebody that this one flew from Toulouse.

I only wished it was a bit sunny.

Amazing photos, I didnt know you could get that close to the AC at LAX. Its proberbly the best airport to see the AC in other than TLS.

The original time the A380 was due to use SNN for cross wind landings, the trip was cancelled as the weather didn't materialise. When it did show up the weather was awful but the aircraft made a number of approaches which included touch and go and full stop landings in both directions over a period of 2 or more hours. Considering the lack of notice and the weather, a good number of people did turn up as the local news stations broadcast its imminent arrival as soon as it was confirmed en route. See:

Gate testing is I believe today, as for the "777" in the photo it is a 767, anyways not trying to be mean, the interesting thing was all the aircraft held position for almost 10 minutes We all sort of new it was coming but that pesky 744 just had to pop up on us last minute. I guess they were low on fuel coming to their end at LAX from Tokyo. Touchdown was I believe 9:28 a.m. Last comment before this turns into a novel We were lucky it was overcast not fog because that was the weather conditions the last few days in sunny CA . Anyways its supposed to rain today so hopefully I can get out there tonight at 7 p.m. to take a few night shots!

I saw the plane parked at the south end of the TBIT, and it had both jetways connected. It was rather amusing as I departed from the jumpseat of a Continental 737, and the three of us in the cockpit were straining to get a good view as we rotated off 25R.

I noticed that too. I was thinking that those pilots in line for departure on 24L probably said to each other "I'm not taking off until I get a glimpse of this thing in person!" haha! One other interesting note, just prior to the UA B744 landing, there was a UA A320 that landed on 24L and nor 24R as every other arrival had that morning. That was my first clue that the A380 was almost here. Or maybe it was nothing. Anyway, great pics everyone!

It looked like they replaced the cargo door on the starboard side of the aircraft in LAX. That's why some of the logos were missing. The UPS logo was still there on one side but there was a space where I'm guessing the Fedex logo used to be.

You're definitely right about the one at LAX. The one at JFK was cn 007 but I don't know the reg. I was at the event held at the Flight Path Center at LAX last night and took more than 60 photos of the bird up close. You can see my post here.
