There has been on and off service to Canada from PWM
for some time now...just none in the last 5 years.
I think the largest Canadian metal to touch the tarmac at PWM
has been the BAE 146, although we have also seen Dash 8s and plenty of B1900s to Toronto and Montreal. When JetBlue service was announced about a year ago now, reports came from the Jetport staff that they had people actively talking with both "Canadian Airlines" and AirTran. We all know that they got somewhere with AirTran, but nothing's been said about AC
With the arrival of AirTran though, there isn't any space left for a new airline to come in. Sure, a few daily B1900s could be squeezed onto the ramp, but there isn't any counter space or gate areas that haven't already been claimed. My guess is that we'll have to wait for the terminal expansion to be able to see any new airlines, and my bet is that AC
is on the top of the list. (probably nothing more than the 3 or 4 daily B1900s with Air Georgian that MHT
gets, but its still better than nothing. The market is there.)
As for the couple other points brought up: The Delta 767 is just a training flight that was filed. They quite often file flight plans on large aircraft like that up to PWM
, but they always promptly turn around right back to JFK
. (The runway could land a 767 though. 762s have seen the field even before the expansion)
American Eagle pulled out with little public explanation. They were consolidating operations in BOS
, and they needed the few ERJs that we got in order to replace the Fokkers that were on the way out. Therefore, PWM
got the axe. Too bad really, they had some major operations here before they left, with a good number of flights a day out to ORD
, and BOS
I reject your reality and substitute my own...
