Delta.com's New 'Interactive Route Map'

Wed Mar 21, 2007 10:31 am

Well, so many of you *****ed and moaned when the first route map came out for the new website, so it looks like DL made another one for ya. Previous complaints I remember were something along the lines of, "Looks like this route map was drawn by a 5th grader" and "I like to see the actual routes DL flies, not where they fly." Yes, it looks like this route map still has a few bugs (codeshare routes) but it is better than the old one.

This map shows that there are non-stops between ATH and ATL, JFK, LAX, and IAH. Only the first two exist. They should identify codeshare routes, but even so, I can't think of any IAH-ATH or LAX-ATH flights.

Also lists tons of destinations from ABE (Allentown, PA) but DL only serves a few places, and they aren't even mainline flights.

Somewhat of an improvement, but far from good, IMHO.

You have to go to settings and then click "non-stop only" and then you will see only actual flights...

Fort Lauderdale to Kiev?

When the hell did that happen?

There's an option under the "Select Map Settings..." button that allows you to select only the nonstop flights. It seemed to solve the problem for me although it appears that codeshare nonstops are still included.

Well it isnt too bad because they only show foreign codeshare and very little domestic codeshare routes.

And the same one used by oneWorld on their alliance site. It's a little clunky but I like it.

Great map, but it is misleading. When I click on CVG, it shows that there is a direct route to MAN. I checked on-line reservations and there is no such flight for July, which would be peak season. I figured that if it was a new flight that was not announced it would probably be seasonal. What I did find is that there is a connecting flight that goes through JFK, requiring an equipment change, and then continues to MAN with the same flight number. But the map shows to routes for the same flight number, one from CVG to MAN and one from JFK to MAN. So the map makes it appear that there are more flights to a city then there are. It is also showing flights from CVG to Panama City, San Salvador, Mexico City/ Likewise, when I clicked on both LAX and SLC it shows a number of international flights to Europe, which are also connecting flights through ATL, CVG or JFK.

I think it's pretty slick, but could use a little work.

I was checking it out and stumbled on the feature that show all available connections between 2 cities. I fly between SFO and MSN quite frequently, and it showed some great connections!

The ones you'd think: Through CVG and ATL, Skyteam hubs MSP, DTW, CLE (all good so far...), and also BOI and XNA !!!

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!?!?!?!?

BTW... I'm not bashing them, it's gotta be a difficult task to do a map like that, I'm just posting because it made me chuckle.

They could definitely use some fine tuning. But I'll be the first to admit I've been screaming at DL's IT department for some time to roll this product out, as well as venting on numerous threads on this site over this matter.
It's a start and DL should be proud to have this feature on their award winning website.

They show them flying ORD to MSP, FCO, CDG, etc. (Even with all the proper non-stop settings)

Obviously a codeshare, but still a big improvement!
