Inebriated Mexican Pax Threatens To Blow IC Flight

Fri Mar 23, 2007 12:05 am

According to AFP, cited by Mexican newspaper El Economista, an inebriated Mexican citizen threatened to blow IC854, apparently flown with a A320, with 88 people on board. The flight was diverted in emergency to Calcutta. Nothing has been found so far in the airplane. Sorry, the note is only in spanish.

Considering India has suffered terrorist attacks in the recent months, this buster may find himself miserably behind bars -and very far away from any bar- for a long time... Geez, it's amazing what booze can make some people do some times!!

Anyone using the threat of bombing or violence of any sort on board a plane, sober or otherwise, needs to be thrown in jail....it does amount to terrorism (maybe not in the sense that the word is used these days) because the person is using the threat of terror against others.....

Dont think so. If he had the dough to travel that far away, he´d surely have it to pay for the mexican jails privileges well known by all who live in this beautifiul country.
I doubt his money´s worth where he´s being held now.

That is correct, but in Mexico and other parts of Spanish speaking America, Hindu is used to described Indian nationals in general to differentiate from Native Americans because as you may know, the native people of the Americas were termed to be "Indians" by all the European colonizers and so in Spanish, and English refering to an Indian most likely refers to a Native American.

And That explanation is just about right. We don't have that differentiation in Spanish as the English language an many others have.

Anyway, what an A$$. But as someone said earlier maybe he just got to money to do whatever he wants. In my own case, I could be drinking my face off but I would never say something as stupid, not even to scare someone.

What an idiot... He must have scared the sh#t off on everyone on board. He deserves a sobering jail time just out of that alone...

But my question is... Are idiots like this held responsible to pay the costs of diverting the airplane in emergency, and the costs incurred by the receiving airport and police forces to handle this potentially threatening situation?

Question - I know that airlines often seek damages (financial) from people that create the need for a diversion. I'm wondering, beyond the joys (well deserved) of an Indian jail...if this guy can be squeezed for the cost of the incident.

thoughts?

I hope he was released! In America, it is Federal policy to allow our Mexicans 6 felonies before we consider deportation. (New York Times, today, should you wish to verify).

Idiot.

IMHO, anyone suffering a loss or damage can fill a lawsuit against against any damage-causing person (whether legal or individual). In this case, it would seem likely the suitors would file against an Indian court, considering the airplane flew under an indian flag, it was diverted to Calcutta, and the prisoner is being held in an Indian jail...

Boy, is this guy screwed up or what?
