PIA Manchester - Cancelled This Morning

Fri Mar 23, 2007 7:37 am

Does any one know why the PIA flight from Manchester was cancelled this morning (March 22, 2007)?

PIA have had to siginificantly reduce their schedule for flights to the European Union because of the ban that exists on all of their aircraft, with the notable exception being their Boeing 777-200ER, Boeing 777-200LR and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Their flights that used to operate Pakistan-MAN-JFK are currently operating through IST for example.

Hopefully this helps.

Two arrests were made airside of passengers scheduled to fly PIA from MAN today. These two men and one arrested in Leeds have been transported to Padding High Security Police Station in north west London for questioning in relation ot the 7/7 London suicide bombings. They are the first arrests made with respect to these events and the timing seems to be related by their planned departure to Pakistan. This may be related to the flight cancellation.

There's a new airline readying themselves to jump in and help themselves to some of PIA's previous market share. Flying with European 747-200's, but considering that EAL's last flyable 742 was supposed to be scrapped at Kemble shortly, I'm not sure where they are getting it from, perhaps a 'new' one from the desert? Only twice a week, but they have a massive 50kg baggage allowance in Eco... that's the most I have ever seen, hopefully they will get off the ground.

Interesting Dan indeed, I checked out there website and came across this page http://gsairlines.com/about-us/about-us.htm it shows an image of the rear of a 747-200 , I read the reg as G-BDXG, so I typed this registration in http://www.airfleets.net I searched the reg and it came back as the aircraft being scrapped!

Hmmm...global spirit has been in the books for a good 2 years now, and were expected to start operations 12 months ago.

We'll see I guess!
Thanks

PIA have dropped Stansted too and it wont be resumed, they have also for a single 744 on wet lease for three months or more depending on which airline they get it from.

No, only two JFK services were routed via Istanbul with 747's, after wchich they refused additional slots probably to please Europe, all US services are now again via MAN.
