NW Domestic F, Refundable?

Sun Mar 25, 2007 12:46 am

Last night I bought a trip NW DTW-STL for Memorial Day weekend and found that F was only $85 more than L (or K or whatever it was in coach) so I bought it. This was not a promo or an upgrade. I did a search for F and this is what came up for the dates and times I wanted to fly. When I chose the ticket and while I was doing the checkout on NW's web site I had to check the box saying I understood the rules and regulations. One of the statemenst was "this ticket is non-refundable" I always thought F was refundale, which is one of the advantages of that type of ticket. I am not planning on not going, but I was just wondering. I have never bought an F ticket before, When I fly F it has always been un upgrade.

i would call northwest and ask them for details. i booked tickets with united in specific fares that i know they are upgradable, then the ticket says "this fare is non upgradable" and yet, i get upgraded either my miles or using my certificates. so i would call northwest to get a better answer
PHX - i miss spotting

Just like in coach, there are different fare classes in business and first which require advance purchase and are not refundable.

If that is the case how come they don't list them for F. In coach NW lists the class as Y, K, M, L, etc depedning on the fare class.

They do... You bought a ticket in the "F" booking class which gives you a seat in the first class cabin. I don't really know SA)">NW's classes off the top of my head, and SA)">CO has changed theres a bit recently but on SA)">CO, something like R, F, and Z are domestic first class.

Based on the deails you gave, I was able to find a FA7V8N fare class (first clas seat, 7 day advanced purchase required) DTW-STL, and the rules for that fare are rather onerous for a first class ticket...you can't even make free changes to it ...

Quoting FA7V8N fare rules:

2. FLY NOW - CONFIRM A SEAT ON AN ALTERNATE FLIGHT FORA FLY NOW FEE OF 25.00USD FOR FLIGHTS DEPARTING WITHIN 3 HOURS OF CHECK-IN WHEN -
A. THE SAME TICKETED INVENTORY CLASS IS AVAILABLE.
B. TRAVEL IS BETWEEN THE SAME ORIGIN CITY AND DESTINATION CITY.
C. NEW FLIGHTS ROUTING ARE PERMITTED PER THE FARE RULE.
D. ALL TRAVEL IS ON NW FLIGHTS 1-1999 AND OR NW FLIGHTS OPERATED BY 9E/XJ.

Quote:
CHANGES
ANY TIME
CHARGE USD 100.00 FOR REISSUE.
NOTE -
....
TICKETS MUST BE REISSUED WHEN ANY VOLUNTARY CHANGE IS MADE. THE FEE AND APPROPRIATE FARE DIFFERENCES MUST BE COLLECTED AT TIME OF CHANGE OR THE CHANGE WILL NOT BE PERMITTED.

Quote:
CANCELLATIONS
TICKET IS NON-REFUNDABLE.
...
C. TICKET VALIDITY AND CANCELLATION FEE
1. TICKETS WILL BECOME INVALID/EXPIRED 366 DAYS AFTER THE DATE OF THE FIRST UNUSED COUPON AND MAY NOT BE USED OR EXCHANGED FOR TRANSPORTATION AFTER THAT TIME AND DATE.
2. ONCE THE TICKET BECOMES INVALID - THE FARE AND RELATED TAXES AND FEES WILL BE REFUNDED. SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THE REFUND NW WILL IMPOSE A CANCELLATION FEE EQUAL TO 100 PERCENT OF ALL AMOUNTS COLLECTED BY NW FOR ISSUANCE OF THE TICKET - INCLUDING - THE FARE AND APPLICABLE TAXES/FEES AND ANY OTHER CHARGES.

Quote:
THE ORIGINAL AND THE REISSUED TICKET MUST BE ANNOTATED -
NON-REFUNDABLE/ - AND - PENALTY FOR CHANGES - IN THE
ENDORSEMENT BOX.

So as string as it seems (to me at least) that F-class inventory (not just in the first class cabin, but actual F-booking booking class) is nonchangeable/nonrefundable...it is, at least for the FA7V8N fare class.

NWA uses the letter P to denote a restriction free fare in the F cabin. F is a restricted ticket in FC.
