Major RP Announcement Soon

Wed Mar 28, 2007 8:06 am

Coming within a week, we are expecting a major announcement from our CEO Bryan Bedford regarding Republic Airways. I am not allowed to disclose this info as an employee, but stay tuned, I will post it when it goes public.

They are pulling an ExpressJet with E170, E175, and E190?

Sounds like a good idea to me..

As long as they manage to somehow get the old Republic logo from NW. Those were some smart looking planes.

I second that, plus 30 firm/30 options on 175s for US. Opening up PHX and PHL as crew bases, reducing US base in IND.

I know what source you're talking about - and that source mentioned next year (hypothetically) so I doubt there'd be an announcement about that right now. Must be something else exciting (and good, hopefully).

um no. A family member I'm very close with flys 170s for RP. I knew of this weeks ago. So you dont know my source. They are also having major problems right now. There is a pilot shortage systemwide and the are upgrading F/O's to Capt out of line from the seniority list.

Well, new bases wouldn't surprise me. Would reducing IND as a US base be of any good?

No reason to be rude, especially now that I see you don't work for the company, you just know someone who does. I do work the company, and I do know the source. The CEO said in one of his weekly letters that he sees us flying 175s for Delta by the middle of next year. Hardly concrete - just hypothetical. And believe me - I'm aware of all the pilot shortages. That's why I said that I hope the news is good - not bad.

Is this announcement for Republic HOLDINGS or Republic AIRWAYS? Two big differences.. Republic Holdings could be for Delta, US, or UA.. Republic Airways can only be for US.. correct?

Well Republic Airways Holdings is the holding company. The airline is Republic Airlines, which flies for US and F9, so it could be either of those. But to take it farther, Republic Airlines is supposed to fly the largest planes - the 175s for example, so if there was an agreement with a new mainline carrier to fly a large regional like that, it would probably be for Republic Airlines or Shuttle. If it was a CRJ or E-145 range, that would probably be for Chautauqua.

I work for the company, I havent heard anything other than TONS of rumors as there always is. Care to enlighten us on your source?

PS I doubt it has to do with expansion of just airplanes. Bedford himself said we are at a MAJOR shortage. And cannot grow until some point in 08.

Yes but if you think about it, it might not be such a bad move. Delta bases its Chautauqua flying out of CVG along with Comair. If RP bought Comair, it would be the largest Delta Connection carrier at CVG. It would ensure the survival of RP as a Delta Connection airline.

Don't they already have a crewbase at PHL? I though they did. I know there is one at PIT, but I thought the one at PHL was even larger...

The PHL base was all ready said to be opening in the near future. Look for the US base in IND to move to PHL and PIT to increase to about one hundred lines. From what I have heard they also want one more hanger in PIT, bring the grand total to three. It seems PIT will be the main base for all Republic flying on the US side, and one of the main maintenance bases.

No rumours anywhere that I have heard that an announcement was forthcoming this week. I work for RP which is the CHQ code. Now for RW or S5 there has not been much said on that either. Shuttle is actually losing some flying, and Republic is gaining some to the extent that US and F9 can give it to them. I would see LGA closing for RP as well as RIC and BUF. Due to the losing of all but 8 145's for US. And S5 is picking up a few flights out of CVG for DL in Apr.
I Don't know where I am anymore

PHL will not be opening as a Republic base. Once USAirways has enough -190s flying in and out of PHL, we are said to be losing the bulk of our PHL flying - moving it to CLT. Mainline gate agents are also informing us that we will be moved back to the F gates once the -190s are flying in force out of PHL. So I don't see the PHL base happening. Corporate has been saying the same thing for quite some time.

No thats in the number of Capt or FO lines for bidding. That would include the reserve lines as well.

E-190s are mainline with 11 F seats. RW (Republic Airlines) flies E-170s and E-175s for US. RP (Chautauqua) flies ERJ-145s for US.

There is an average of about 6-7 crews per airplane. So if there will be about 100 flight crews in PIT there should be about 16 or so A/C based there. Those A/C will do more than just PIT flying, they will be used around the system.

Does this mean that US will cut its IND schedule even more? They've been hacking at it for a number of years. I don't know how much they have left. I don't know if there is much point having a base here.

Chautauqua/Republic Airways Holdings enjoys having bases in outstations. Look at CMH. The only places Shuttle America flies out of that base are ORD, IAD, DEN and ATL. Probably only 10 flights a day, and it maintains a fairly large base.

I think it is quite smart for an regional airline group like RW / RP /S5 to have bases where the cost of living is reasonably low.

Man, you need to be careful with what your brother tells you. First of all, pretty much everything you have said is a rumor, aside from Bryan Bedford saying we "might" get 175's for DL. The 4 DL 175's down in Brazil was possibly an April Fool's joke. The bypass thing, you need to never mention that on here again (that is being handled by the Union and the Company). That is a viscious rumor that could easily get out of control, and will likely be rectified shortly.

As for the RW IND base closing... on the contrary, it has grown slightly in the last few months. The 170/175 operates flights to PHL/DCA/PIT from IND, and the company, being based in IND, always likes to have a base in the hometown, unless it is logistically impractical (ie. DEN for F9).

This thread is going down the Flightinfo toilet with speculation.

P.S. RAH is in talks to finalize the purchase of Compass from NW when they get more than 10 airplanes (sarcasm)
