C-series Launch Decision For A 3rd Time

Thu Mar 29, 2007 5:43 am

Or is that a fourth or fifth time. Whose keeping track?

Given their revised 2013 proposed entry date for the plane, they are again delaying the decision whether or not to launch and have indicated that may not decide until 2008.

No surprise. Though I did believe they would just kill the project.

as someone else pointed out, the worst thing about the CRJ-1000 is that it will allow Bombardier to limp along for a few more years without having to make a final decision on the C series. I believe by the time Bombardier decides to produce the C series (if ever) it will be too late and both Boeing and Airbus will already be in development of their next generation narrowbody.

maybe not a bad idea, leapfrog a generation in small aircraft design, create an aircraft that does what the 787 did to widebody, but do it for the large regional aircraft

The circumstances of the C-Series are nothing like that...

Bombardier can't build such an aircraft, at least not without the support of major investment from suppliers who to date have said no. For example, what sort of engine is going to power this aircraft? The PW6000 likely wouldn't cut it, and no one is interested in building a new engine before the 737 replacement debuts.
