Holding Patterns Over RIC- 3/29/07

Fri Mar 30, 2007 12:23 pm

I noticed an unusal amount of aircraft over the skies near Richmond, Va tonight around 11pm. I checked FlightAware.com and noticed several CO flts that were circling the Ricmond, Va area headed to EWR. Is it the norm to have flights holding so far from there destination airport. In case anyone wants to check the flight patterns some of the flights that appeared to be effected are: CO #200, CO #1636, CO #255, CO #210, CO #293 and GWY #337. Is the weather bad in the EWR area tonight 3/29/07 at about 11pm?

The current metar (0251z) reports a 15 knot wind, 10 miles vis, and few clouds at 25000 ft. Nothing that would affect an airliner IMO.

Perhaps there is just alot of traffic trying to get sequenced in there tonight?
