First F9 SDF Flight

Mon Apr 02, 2007 9:26 pm

I had a horrendous day in Chicago (ORD) yesterday that is worthy of a trip report but I'll forgo that and just tell you that when the Shuttle America E170 landed last night and we deplaned there was the first Frontier - F9 E170 parked on the opposite side of the concourse.

I hope F9 does well here in Louisville and I will get a chance to take the flight soon. It also makes me wonder why UA never tried this. One would think that the marketing folks at F9 are just as smart as the ones at UA and that if the route were capable of sustaining business they would both be on it. I wonder if this is a route UA wishes they had already started or one they'll regret not starting?

I do not have enough data on O&D, etc. to know facts about this but I can bet there are enough westbound passengers who would avoid ORD at any cost.

Cheers,
John

John,

I have wondered that very question for years. Granted, not keeping me awake at nights, but still.....

Piedmont had flights years ago to Denver from SDF, but there's been a rather long lull in the action prior to F9.

John

I have a seat booked next week SDF-DEN on the evening flight, looking forward to my first E-170 flight!

If CAK and DAY are any indication on how these medium cities in the midwest will perform, then I think SDF will do very well. Frontier has been doing very well and I wish them more success.

Guess time will tell if it's 'capable of sustaining business'.

I'm glad you say that. I have very limited ways of checking, but what I've been amazed by what I've seen.

Still - I wish they'd do some big ta-daaaaaa for Kentucky Derby.  Smile

Have you heard anything to the rumor of and additional DEN-CAK flight w/ the E170? When I asked someone in CAK, they said loadfactors were high and the rumble was when more E170's were online they may see and additional mid-day turn.

Any info?

KingCavalier may know much more than I, but, a couple of weeks ago, Frontier's CFO Tate was asked about CAK.

He said it was a candidate for more service, but not in the very immediate future. I would guess it is a question of aircraft availability.

A number of the E170's coming have to replace schedules the Horizon aircraft are flying.

Whether this is of any interest or not is yet to be seen but here are the load factors for first DEN - SDF followed by SDF - DEN in the second full week of the service from April 8 - April 14:

Out of 980 possible seats for revenue passengers traveling DEN - SDF, 779 of these seats have been sold (Including one flight that is OS!) leaving only 201 unoccupied seats. Not bad for the little engine that could in Denver. But who east of the Mississipi knows that F9 exists. B6, sure. F9, who? So how can they possibly have people on their flights SDF - DEN? Read on...

Out of 980 possible seats for revenue passengers traveling SDF - DEN, 729 of these seats have been sold leaving only 251 unoccupied seats in the second week of a brand new service from a brand new airline for Louisville!

79% load factor (approx one week out) DEN - SDF and 74% SDF - DEN. That route is here to stay!

The inaugural flight to Denver from SDF yesterday morning had only 1 open seat. SDF is off to a great start.

CAK has 2 daily Airbus flights, so I do see SDF adding a 3rd flight (Airbus maybe?) before CAK. However, F9 must be pleased with how CAK is performing. I'd like to see a 3rd flight adding to both cities, 1 Airbus to SDF and 1 E70 to CAK.

Frontier has stated that no city has welcomed Frontier more than Louisville. The airport and city have done a great job promoting the service and paid to run local TV spots.

Awesome news. I have seen F9 come up as a preferred carrier in my company's travel agent web site. So when I do need to travel west I will be looking at F9 for a possible flight. I love the E170 as I've flown it with US and UA both.

Does the F9 E170 have in-flight entertainment like the F9 319s?

Welcome to the board SDF880, I'm a local SDF guy too!

Cheers,
John

The 170's have no IFE. They are standard express a/c.

Looks like F9 will be bringing the Airbus to SDF a couple times in May for the Kentucky Derby:

May 3: FFT2364 (DEN-SDF), FFT2365 (SDF-DEN), FFT8503 (CPR-SDF), FFT2363 (SDF-DEN)
May 6: FFT2364 (DEN-SDF), FFT2365 (SDF-DEN), FFT8606 (SDF-CPR), FFT9006 (DEN-SDF)
It's an entirely different kind of flying; all together.

Interesting and very good news all in the same breath. This all coming on the heals of F9 adding a fourth daily to BNA on their A319's. I think it's safe to surmise that the midwest and south have been very kind to F9. Here's to that continuing into the year!!!!!

Hey, welcome aboard!

I think this service will do incredibly well, and maybe warrant mainline equipment in the future. It also seems like when F9 comes into a market, they become a quick favorite with the travelers in that market. I know this has been discussed, but I don't know that I ever saw the answer, do/will the E170's have the PTV's?

Also, I have to say it  Smile I just hope someday BIL goes mainline, even if only one flight a day. I know it isn't going to happen, seeing as BIL isn't even on the schedule yet to get the E170, but I can always dream.
Good goes around!

I am excited at the prospect of getting mainline here on F9. SDF currently only has Airbus service by UPS so it would be nice to see one here flying pax. The only mainline we get now is M88 / 738 Delta, DC9 Northwest, M80 American and 733/735/737 Southwest. I'm hoping we'll upgrade to mainline on US and CO one day!

Cheers,
John
